Abstract

A method, system, and computer program product for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device are provided. The method includes receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number, mapping a called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party, and sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

Claims

1. A method for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication request includes a triggering event that identifies a controller system, the method further comprising:

returning an authorization termination signal from the controller system to the network in response to the triggering event, the authorization termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring while separately sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the communication request is received in response to a custom local area signaling service (CLASS) feature;

the method further comprising;

identifying a service offering corresponding to a subsystem number;

wherein mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party is performed when the subsystem number indicates that the service offering includes caller identification services to the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

returning an authorization signal from the controller system to the network in response to the CLASS feature, the termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring prior to sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

8. A system for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

a computer processing device; and

a caller identification services application executing on the computer processing device, the caller identification services application performing a method, comprising;

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

9. The system of claim 8, wherein the communication request includes a triggering event that identifies a controller system, the method further comprising:

returning an authorization termination signal from the controller system to the network in response to the triggering event, the authorization termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring while separately sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

10. The system of claim 8, further comprising a custom local area signaling service (CLASS) application executing on the computer processing device;

wherein the communication request is received in response to a CLASS feature, the method further comprising;

identifying a service offering corresponding to a subsystem number via the CLASS application;

wherein mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party is performed when the subsystem number indicates that the service offering includes caller identification services to the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the CLASS application further performs:

returning an authorization signal from the controller system to the network in response to the CLASS feature, the termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring while separately sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

12. The system of claim 8, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

13. The system of claim 8, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

14. The system of claim 8, wherein the caller identification services application further performs:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

15. A computer program product for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, the computer program product including instructions for causing a computer to implement a method, the method comprising:

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

16. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the communication request includes a triggering event that identifies a controller system, the method further comprising:

returning an authorization termination signal from the controller system to the network in response to the triggering event, the authorization termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring while separately sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

17. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the communication request is received in response to a custom local area signaling service (CLASS) feature;

the method further comprising;

identifying a service offering corresponding to a subsystem number;

wherein mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party is performed when the subsystem number indicates that the service offering includes caller identification services to the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

18. The computer program product of claim 17, further comprising instructions for performing:

returning an authorization signal from the controller system to the network in response to the CLASS feature, the termination signal operable for causing a called party communication device associated with the called party number to ring prior to sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

19. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

20. The computer program product of claim 15, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box, the method further comprising:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

21. A method for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

22. The method of claim 21, further comprising receiving a Customized Applications for Mobile Network Enhanced Logic (CAMEL) termination attempt trigger.

The method of claim 22, further comprising returning a CAMEL termination authorization trigger, the CAMEL termination authorization trigger operable for causing the GSM called device associated with the called party number to ring prior to sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

24. The method of claim 23, wherein the communication request includes administrative information from a mobile switching center that has exchanged authentication, registration and location information with a home location register.

25. The method of claim 21, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

26. The method of claim 21, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

27. The method of claim 21, further comprising:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number, and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

28. A system for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

a computer processing device; and

a caller identification services application executing on the computer processing device, the caller identification services application performing a method, comprising;

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

29. The system of claim 28, wherein the caller identification services application further coordinates receiving a Customized Applications for Mobile Network Enhanced Logic (CAMEL) termination attempt trigger.

The system of claim 29, wherein the caller identification services application returns a CAMEL termination authorization trigger, the CAMEL termination authorization trigger operable for causing the GSM called device associated with the called party number to ring prior to sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

31. The system of claim 30, wherein the communication request includes administrative information from a mobile switching center that has exchanged authentication, registration and location information with a home location register.

32. The system of claim 28, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

33. The system of claim 28, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

34. The system of claim 28, wherein the caller identification services application further performs:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

35. A computer program product for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, the computer program product including instructions for causing a computer to implement a method, the method comprising:

receiving a communication request from a caller device over a voice network, the communication request including a caller party number of the caller device and a called party number of a Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) called device associated with the communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party; and

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

36. The computer program product of claim 35, the method further comprising receiving a Customized Applications for Mobile Network Enhanced Logic (CAMEL) termination attempt trigger.

37. The computer program product of claim 36, the method further comprising returning a CAMEL termination authorization trigger, the CAMEL termination authorization trigger operable for causing the GSM called device associated with the called party number to ring prior to sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address.

38. The computer program product of claim 37, wherein the communication request includes administrative information from a mobile switching center that has exchanged authentication, registration and location information with a home location register.

39. The computer program product of claim 35, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

40. The computer program product of claim 35, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box, the method further comprising:

identifying a caller party name assigned to the caller party number; and

sending the caller party number and the caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

41. A method for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

receiving a first communication request from a first caller device over a voice network, the first communication request including a first caller party number of the first caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the first communication request, the first communication request including a first termination attempt;

mapping the first called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party;

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number;

returning an authorization termination signal to the network in response to the first termination attempt;

receiving a second communication request from a second caller device over a voice network, the second communication request including a second caller party number of the second caller device and the called party number of the called device associated with the second communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party; and

sending the second caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein the second communication request includes a second termination attempt.

43. The method of claim 42, further comprising returning a second authorization termination signal to the network in response to the second termination attempt.

44. The method of claim 43, wherein the first and second caller party numbers are rendered on the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

45. The method of claim 41, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

46. The method of claim 41, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

47. The method of claim 41, further comprising:

identifying a first caller party name assigned to the first caller party number;

sending the first caller party number and the first caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number;

identifying a second caller party name assigned to the second caller party number; and

sending the second caller party number and the second caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

48. A system for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, comprising:

a computer processing device; and

a caller identification services application executing on the computer processing device, the caller identification services application performing a method, comprising;

receiving a first communication request from a first caller device over a voice network, the first communication request including a first caller party number of the first caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the first communication request, the first communication request including a first termination attempt;

mapping the first called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party;

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number;

returning an authorization termination signal to the network in response to the first termination attempt;

receiving a second communication request from a second caller device over a voice network, the second communication request including a second caller party number of the second caller device and the called party number of the called device associated with the second communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party; and

sending the second caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

49. The system of claim 48, wherein the second communication request includes a second termination attempt.

50. The system of claim 49, wherein the caller identification services application further returns a second authorization termination signal to the network in response to the second termination attempt.

51. The system of claim 50, wherein the first and second caller party numbers are rendered on the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

52. The system of claim 48, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

53. The system of claim 48, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box.

54. The system of claim 48, wherein the caller identification services application further performs:

identifying a first caller party name assigned to the first caller party number;

sending the first caller party number and the first caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number;

identifying a second caller party name assigned to the second caller party number; and

sending the second caller party number and the second caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.

55. A computer program product for providing caller identification services to an Internet Protocol-enabled device, the computer program product including instructions for causing a computer to implement a method, the method comprising:

receiving a first communication request from a first caller device over a voice network, the first communication request including a first caller party number of the first caller device and a called party number of a called device associated with the first communication request, the first communication request including a first termination attempt;

mapping the first called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of a called party;

sending the caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number;

returning an authorization termination signal to the network in response to the first termination attempt;

receiving a second communication request from a second caller device over a voice network, the second communication request including a second caller party number of the second caller device and the called party number of the called device associated with the second communication request;

mapping the called party number to an Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party; and

sending the second caller party number to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponding to the called party number.

56. The computer program product of claim 55, wherein the second communication request includes a second termination attempt.

57. The computer program product of claim 56, wherein the method further comprises returning a second authorization termination signal to the network in response to the second termination attempt.

58. The computer program product of claim 57, wherein the first and second caller party numbers are rendered on the Internet Protocol-enabled device.

59. The computer program product of claim 55, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address includes at least one of:

a uniform resource locator; and

an Internet address.

60. The computer program product of claim 55, wherein the Internet Protocol-enabled device address corresponds to a set top box, the method further comprising:

identifying a first caller party name assigned to the first caller party number;

sending the first caller party number and the first caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number;

identifying a second caller party name assigned to the second caller party number; and

sending the second caller party number and the second caller party name to the Internet Protocol-enabled device address of the called party number.
