Abstract

Disclosed is a method for transmitting a notification message in a mobile broadcast system that includes transmitting common notification message channel information necessary for receiving a common notification message for all users capable of receiving broadcast services, along with an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) for the broadcast services or a control signal for the broadcast services; transmitting specific notification message channel information necessary for receiving a specific notification message for a specific user group to a terminal in the specific user group along with the ESG; generating at least one of the common notification message and the specific notification message; and transmitting the generated notification message to the terminal using the corresponding channel information.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting a notification message in a mobile broadcast system, the method comprising:

transmitting common notification message channel information necessary for receiving a common notification message for all users capable of receiving broadcast services, along with an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) for the broadcast services or a control signal for the broadcast services;

transmitting specific notification message channel information necessary for receiving a specific notification message for a specific user group to a terminal in the specific user group along with the ESG;

generating at least one of the common notification message and the specific notification message; and

transmitting the generated notification message to the terminal using corresponding channel information.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the channel information comprises at least one of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port, and a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port, used for transmission of the corresponding notification message.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an ESG provider discovery descriptor, an ESG access descriptor and a notification descriptor, transported through a bootstrap session of the ESG.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an ESG initialization container and an ESG index container including a notification descriptor, transported through an announcement carousel session of the ESG.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSI/SI) indicative of a control signal of a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) network.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the specific notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an acquisition fragment and a notification fragment of the ESG.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the specific user group comprises users who receive a specific broadcast service.

8. A method for receiving a notification message in a mobile broadcast system, the method comprising:

receiving a control signal for broadcast services via a broadcast network;

receiving an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) for the broadcast services;

extracting, from the ESG or the control signal, common notification message channel information necessary for receiving a common notification message for all users capable of receiving the broadcast services;

extracting, from the ESG, specific notification message channel information necessary for receiving a specific notification message for a specific user group; and

receiving at least one of the common notification message and the specific notification message depending on the channel information.

9. The method of claim 8, wherein the channel information comprises at least one of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port, and a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port, used for transmission of a corresponding notification message.

10. The method of claim 8, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using at least one of an ESG provider discovery descriptor, an ESG access descriptor and a notification descriptor, transported through a bootstrap session of the ESG.

11. The method of claim 8, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using at least one of an ESG initialization container and an ESG index container including a notification descriptor, transported through an announcement carousel session of the ESG.

12. The method of claim 8, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSI/SI) indicative of a control signal of a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) network.

13. The method of claim 8, wherein the specific notification message channel information is received using at least one of an acquisition fragment and a notification fragment of the ESG.

14. The method of claim 8, wherein the specific user group comprises users who receive a specific broadcast service.

15. An apparatus for transmitting a notification message in a mobile broadcast system, the apparatus comprising:

a common notification message channel information generator for generating common notification message channel information necessary for receiving a common notification message for all users capable of receiving broadcast services;

a specific notification message channel information generator for generating specific notification message channel information necessary for receiving a specific notification message for a specific user group;

an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) generation/delivery unit for transmitting at least one of the common notification message channel information and the specific notification message channel information to a terminal along with an ESG;

a control signal generator for including the common notification message channel information in a control signal for the broadcast services, and transmitting the control signal to the terminal via a broadcast network;

a notification message generator for generating at least one of the common notification message and the specific notification message; and

a notification message transmitter for transmitting the generated notification message to the terminal using corresponding channel information.

16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the channel information comprises at least one of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port, and a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port, used for transmission of a corresponding notification message.

17. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an ESG provider discovery descriptor, an ESG access descriptor and a notification descriptor, transported through a bootstrap session of the ESG.

18. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an ESG initialization container and an ESG index container including a notification descriptor, transported through an announcement carousel session of the ESG.

19. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the common notification message channel information is transmitted using Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSI/SI) indicative of a control signal of a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) network.

20. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the specific notification message channel information is transmitted using at least one of an acquisition fragment and a notification fragment of the ESG.

21. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the specific user group comprises users who receive a specific broadcast service.

22. An apparatus for receiving a notification message in a mobile broadcast system, the apparatus comprising:

a control signal receiver for receiving a control signal for broadcast services via a broadcast network;

an Electronic Service Guide (ESG) receiver for receiving an ESG for the broadcast services;

a notification message channel information parser for extracting, from the ESG or the control signal, common notification message channel information necessary for receiving a common notification message for all users capable of receiving the broadcast services, and extracting, from the ESG, specific notification message channel information necessary for receiving a specific notification message for a specific user group; and

a notification message receiver for receiving at least one of the common notification message and the specific notification message depending on the channel information.

23. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the channel information comprises at least one of an Internet Protocol (IP) address, a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port, and a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port, used for transmission of a corresponding notification message.

24. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using at least one of an ESG provider discovery descriptor, an ESG access descriptor and a notification descriptor, transported through a bootstrap session of the ESG.

25. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using at least one of an ESG initialization container and an ESG index container including a notification descriptor, transported through an announcement carousel session of the ESG.

26. The apparatus of claim 22, wherein the common notification message channel information is received using Program Specific Information/Service Information (PSI/SI) indicative of a control signal of a Digital Video Broadcasting-Handheld (DVB-H) network.
