Abstract

A directory view component runs on a host terminal. The directory view component is configured to interface with a file manager application resident on the host terminal. The file manager application provides an interface to a directory of the host terminal. The directory view component interfaces with the file manager to generate view data of the directory for use on a remote device.

Claims

1. A system for sharing data from a host terminal, the system comprising:

a directory view component that is configured to interface with a file manager application resident on the host terminal, wherein the file manager application provides an interface to a directory of the host terminal, the directory including a plurality of files;

wherein the directory view component interfaces with the file manager application to generate view data of the directory.

2. The system of claim 1, further comprising a communication application that transmits data corresponding to the view data of the directory to a remote terminal.

3. The system of claim 1, further comprising one or more servers that establishes a link between the host terminal and the remote terminal.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the one or more servers forwards communications from the host terminal to the remote terminal.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the one or more servers render the data corresponding to the view data in a web page for a browser of the remote terminal.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the web page presents one or more nodes of the directory as selectable objects for at least one of downloading or viewing.

7. A communication platform for sharing data from a host terminal, the system comprising:

a directory view component that is configured to interface with a file manager application resident on the host terminal, wherein the file manager application provides an interface to a directory of the host terminal, the directory including a plurality of files, and wherein the directory view component interfaces with the file manager application to generate view data of the directory; and

a server component that executes on the host terminal to communicate data, including data corresponding to view data of the directory, from the host terminal to a remote terminal coupled to the host terminal through a network.

8. The platform of claim 7, further comprising a media manager that identifies at least some of the media files stored on the host terminal.

The platform of claim 8, further comprising one or more servers that are remote to the host terminal and communicate with the host terminal to receive the communicated data of the server component, and wherein the one or more servers generate a web page that includes a presentation comprising identification of the media files identified by the media manager and identification of at least one of the file manager or the view data of the directory.

The platform of claim 9, wherein the web page includes one or more active objects to enable a user of the remote terminal to enter an input corresponding to selection of at least one of (i) one or more of the media files, (ii) the file manager, or (iii) any one of a plurality of directory nodes represented by the view data.

11. The platform of claim 10, wherein in response to the input corresponding to selection of one or more media files, the server component executes to communicate data from the media file to the remote terminal.

12. The platform of claim 11, wherein the server component configures the communicated data to accommodate one or more capabilities of the remote terminal.

13. The platform of claim 10, wherein in response to the input corresponding to selection of the file manager, at least one of the server component or directory view component execute to communicate view data to the one or more servers, the view data corresponding to a portion of the directory.

The platform of claim 13, wherein in response to the input corresponding to selection of one of the directory nodes, at least one of the server component or directory view component execute to either (i) transfer a file corresponding to the directory node or (ii) generate a view of a content of the file represented by the directory node.

15. The platform of claim 14, wherein the one or more servers provide the view of the content of the file as part of the web page to the remote terminal.

16. The platform of claim 14, wherein the one or more servers transfer the file corresponding to the directory node using a download manager of a browser of the remote terminal.
