Abstract

A flexible and extensible architecture allows for secure searching across an enterprise. Such an architecture can provide a simple Internet-like search experience to users searching secure content inside (and outside) the enterprise. The architecture allows for the crawling and searching of a variety or sources across an enterprise, regardless of whether any of these sources conform to a conventional user role model. The architecture further allows for security attributes to be submitted at query time, for example, in order to provide real-time secure access to enterprise resources. The user query also can be transformed to provide for dynamic querying that provides for a more current result list than can be obtained for static queries.

Claims

1. A method of providing suggested content for secure search, comprising:

providing a set of triggering words;

registering a plurality of content providers;

determining whether a query received from an authorized user contains one of the set of triggering words;

if the query contains at least one of the set of triggering words, accessing a link template for at least one indexed document and substituting values for parameters in the link template corresponding to at least one of the user and the query to generate a valid link;

obtaining content associated with the valid link from a secure data source; and

presenting the content from the secure data source to the user as suggested content.

2. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

the obtained content is XML content associated with the valid link.

3. A method according to claim 2, further comprising:

applying a stylesheet to the XML content to generate an HTML fragment capable of being displayed to the user in a browser.

4. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

the values substituted for parameters in the link template include at least one of user identification information, session information, and query information.

5. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

crawling documents across the enterprise; and

indexing the crawled documents.

6. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

storing metadata for each crawled document including a generic link useful in generating the valid link.

7. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

substituting values for parameters in the link template includes capturing parameters from the query and inserting those parameters in the link template.

8. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

substituting values for parameters in the link template includes substituting security credentials for the user whereby separate security mechanisms are not needed prior to the query.

9. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

substituting values for parameters in the link template includes substituting hybrid regular expressions.

10. A method according to claim 1, wherein:

substituting values for parameters in the link template includes substituting user role information.

11. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

authenticating and authorizing the user before processing the query.

12. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

re-authorizing the user in the secure data source using security credentials substituted in the valid link.

13. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

storing user security credentials to a user cookie.

14. A method according to claim 1, further comprising:

storing information for the secure providers in system cache.

15. A computer program product embedded in a computer readable medium for providing suggested content for secure search, comprising:

program code for providing a set of triggering words;

program code for registering a plurality of content providers;

program code for determining whether a query received from an authorized user contains one of the set of triggering words;

program code for accessing a link template for at least one indexed document and substituting values for parameters in the link template corresponding to at least one of the user and the query to generate a valid link when the query contains at least one of the set of triggering words;

if the query contains at least one of the set of triggering words, obtaining content associated with the valid link from a secure data source; and

if the query contains at least one of the set of triggering words, presenting the content from the secure data source to the user as suggested content.

16. A computer program product according to claim 15, wherein:

the obtained content is XML content associated with the valid link.

17. A computer program product according to claim 16, further comprising:

program code for applying a stylesheet to the XML content to generate an HTML fragment capable of being displayed to the user in a browser.

18. A computer program product according to claim 15, wherein:

the values substituted for parameters in the link template include at least one of user identification information, session information, and query information.

19. A computer program product according to claim 15, further comprising:

program code for crawling documents across the enterprise; and

program code for indexing the crawled documents.

20. A computer program product according to claim 15, further comprising:

program code for storing metadata for each crawled document including a generic link useful in generating the valid link.

21. A computer program product according to claim 15, wherein:

program code for substituting values for parameters in the link template includes program code for capturing parameters from the query and inserting those parameters in the link template.

22. A computer program product according to claim 15, wherein:

program code for substituting values for parameters in the link template includes program code for substituting security credentials for the user whereby separate security mechanisms are not needed prior to the query.

23. A computer program product according to claim 15, wherein:

program code for substituting values for parameters in the link template includes program code for substituting hybrid regular expressions.

24. A computer program product according to claim 15, further comprising:

program code for authenticating and authorizing the user before processing the query.

25. A computer program product according to claim 24, further comprising:

program code for re-authorizing the user in the secure data source using security credentials substituted in the valid link.
