Abstract

An approach to dynamically adding and removing items from a web-application list module is provided. The approach includes configuring a web page without changing to another web page, and operating a configuration program in a web browser. A user may change various user elements in a web page without accessing an edit page or refreshing the web page. The changes are incorporated while the user continues to interact with the web page. The changed information is stored and may be associated to the user'"'"'s computer or the user using cookies.

Claims

1. A method of configuring a web page without changing to another web page, comprising:

providing for an operation of a web browser to show a set of information in the web page;

implementing one or more changes to the set of information displayed in the web browser, from a set of inputs, at least one of without refreshing the web page or without changing to another web page; and

displaying the one or more changes to the set of information in the web page.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein providing for the operation of the web browser to show the set of information comprises showing the set of information with one or more buttons to update the web page.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein providing for the operation,of the web browser to show the set of information comprises showing the set of information with one or more symbols to remove one or more subsets of the set of information in the web page.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein implementing the one or more changes comprises at least one of adding more information to the set of information, updating the set of information, moving one or more subsets of the set of information, or removing the one or more subsets of the set of information.

5. One or more computer-readable media having instructions stored thereon for performing the method of claim 1.

6. A method for dynamically adding and removing elements from a web-application list module in a web server, comprising:

providing a web page with a set of configurable elements to be viewed by a user;

receiving an input to modify a subset of the set of configurable elements displayed in the web page;

communicating with another computing device to obtain one or more data in response to the input to modify the subset;

providing a modified subset of the set of configurable elements in the web page using the one or more data; and

allowing the user to continue to interact with the web page uninterrupted during the receipt of the input, the communication with the another computing device, and the provision of the modified subset.

7. The method of claim 6, wherein the set of configurable elements is selected from a first group including a list of user interface elements.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the configurable elements are selected from a second group including an add data, an edit data, an update data, and a removable data.

9. The method of claim 6, wherein receiving the input comprises receiving an information into an edit box with a button at a display of the web page to add another configurable element.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein communicating with the another computing device comprises transmitting the information to the another computing device to perform an inline asynchronous update at the another computing device to persist a change and to obtain the one or more data wherein the one or more data is the another configurable element.

11. The method of claim 10, wherein providing the modified subset comprises adding the another configurable element to the set of configurable elements using DHTML.

12. The method of claim 6, wherein receiving the input comprises receiving an information at a display of the web page to remove a configurable element.

13. The method of claim 12, wherein communicating with the another computing device comprises transmitting the information to the another computing device to perform an inline asynchronous update at the another computing device to persist a change and to provide the one or more data.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein providing the modified subset comprises removing the configurable element from the set of configurable elements using DHTML.

15. The method of claim 6, further comprising storing one or more cookies at a computing device of the user to uniquely associate the set of configurable elements with the computing device to maintain a display of the set of configurable elements.

16. The method of claim 6, further comprising storing one or more cookies at a computing device of the user to uniquely associate the set of configurable elements with the user using a username and a password to maintain a display of the set of configurable elements.

17. One or more computer-readable media having instructions stored thereon for performing the method of claim 6.

18. One or more computer-readable media having instructions stored thereon for operating a configuration program in a web browser in a computing device, comprising:

a first set of computer software operable in the web browser to obtain one or more data to configure a web page;

a second set of computer software operable in the web browser to add the one or more data to the web page;

a third set of computer software operable to remove the one or more data from the web page; and

the first set operable with at least one of the second set or the third set to exchange the one or more data with one or more other computing devices while the computing device continues to provide a user interface or an information to the user.

19. The computer-readable media of claim 18, wherein the first set is selected from a group including XMLHTTP.

20. The computer-readable media of claim 18, wherein the second set and the third set are selected from a group including DHTML, ACTIVEX®

controls, JAVASCRIPT®

, and applets.
