Abstract

A method and a device for automatic capturing of a static image. The automatic static image-capturing device is a scanner. The method includes the following steps. Any changes on a scanning platform are monitored. If a change in the static image on the scanning platform is detected, the change is gauged for a preset time interval to check for any further change during this time interval. If no further change is detected within this time interval, a preset operation is triggered.

16. A method comprising:

detecting at least one change in a static image captured using a static image-capturing device; and

executing an image capturing operation in response to said changed image remaining unchanged for a period of time.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the static image-capturing device comprises a digital camera.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the static image capturing device includes a platform scanner.

19. The method of claim 16 further comprising:

gauging said change for a preset time interval; and

checking for any further change during said preset time interval.

23. The method of claim 16 further comprising focusing said static image, wherein said focusing causes a change in said static image.

20. The method of claim 20 further comprising performing a scanning operation in response to an absence of detection of further change during said preset time interval.

21. The method of claim 20 further comprising performing a pre-scanning operation in response to an absence of detection of further change during said preset time interval.

22. The method of claim 20 further comprising gauging said change for a second preset time interval in response to detection of a further change during said preset time interval.

24. A platform scanner comprising:

a scanning head to obtain a static image; and

a decision logic device adapted to;

detect at least one change in said static image; and

initiate execution of an image capturing operation in response to said changed image remaining unchanged for a period of time.

25. The platform scanner of claim 24, and further comprising a buffer unit to store a previously captured image, and wherein said decision logic device is further adapted to detect said at least one change based, at least in part, on said previously captured image.

26. The platform scanner of claim 24, wherein said scanning head further comprises an image-capturing device.

27. The platform scanner of claim 26, wherein said image-capturing device comprises a charge coupled device.

28. The platform scanner of claim 24, wherein said decision logic device is further adapted to initiate a pre-scanning operation and/or a scanning operation in response to an absence of a detection of change in said static image.

29. The platform scanner of claim 24 wherein said scanning head is mounted underneath a scanning platform.

30. The platform scanner of claim 26 wherein said image-capturing device is adapted to

capture an image;

and

transform the image into image data.

31. The platform scanner of claim 25 wherein said decision logic device is further adapted to determine whether said previously captured image and said captured image are the same.
