1. A method for controlling access to a building selected from a hospital, a medical clinic or the like, or a nursing home, a retirement residence or the like or a portion of the building, comprising:
- a) positioning an apparatus comprising an input member and an output dispenser proximate to a barrier to entry of the building or the portion thereof;
b) requiring a person to use the input member to provide the apparatus with at least one of the following items of information;
(a) their destination in the building or the portion thereof, and (b) the duration of their attendance at the building or the portion thereof; and
, c) using a dispenser apparatus to automatically provide a pass to the person wherein the pass incorporates at least one of the following items of information;
(c) the portions of the building which the person may enter, and (d) the time during which the person may be in the building or the portion thereof.

18. A method for controlling access to a building selected from a hospital, a medical clinic or the like, or a nursing home, a retirement residence or the like or a portion of the building, comprising:

a) positioning an apparatus comprising an input member and a first image capturing device proximate to a barrier to entry of the building or the portion thereof;
b) requiring a person to use the input member to provide the apparatus with at least one of the following items of information;
(a) their destination in the building or the portion thereof, and (b) the duration of their attendance at the building or the portion thereof;
c) using the first image capturing device to obtain an image of the person;
d) conveying the image to a computer;
e) providing images to the computer from at least one second image capturing device positioned to monitor an entrance to the building or portion thereof; and
,f) comparing the images obtained from the second image capturing device with the image of a person obtained from the first image capturing device and determining whether the person is permitted in an area based, at least in part, on information inputted by the person to the apparatus. - View Dependent Claims (19, 20)
