1. A wireless network having a wireless link, the wireless network comprising:

  • a plurality of client devices, each of the plurality of client devices having client transceiver circuitry that receives data over the wireless link and that transmits data over the wireless link at a selected power level, at least a first of the plurality of client devices including client device processing circuitry that assesses signals received from other of the plurality of client devices over the wireless link, generates reception characteristics, and transmits the reception characteristics over the wireless link;

    an access point having a network interface, communicatively coupled to at least one wide area network, and access point transceiver circuitry that transmits data to and receives data from the plurality of client devices; and

    the access point receives and assesses the reception characteristics, and, based on the assessment, the access point generates the selected power level for at least a second of the plurality of client devices, and transmit the selected power level to the at least a second of the plurality of client devices.
