Abstract

A resource allocation method in a wireless communication system for providing a communication service in a given system frequency band to access terminals (ATs) within a broad-band service area around an access point (AP) and to ATs within a narrow-band service area having a radius larger than the radius of the broad-band service area. In the resource allocation method, the system frequency band is divided into a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) interval and a Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) interval in time, and the TDD interval and the FDD interval are defined as TDD resources and FDD resources, respectively. The TDD resources are allocated to an AT within the broad-band service area, and the FDD resources are allocated to an AT within the narrow-band service area.

Claims

1. A resource allocation method in a wireless communication system for providing a communication service in a given system frequency band to access terminals within a broad-band service area around an access point and to access terminals within a narrow-band service area having a radius larger than the radius of the broad-band service area, comprising:

dividing the system frequency band into a time division duplexing (TDD) interval and a frequency division duplexing (FDD) interval in time, and defining the TDD interval and the FDD interval as TDD resources and FDD resources, respectively;

allocating the TDD resources to an access terminal located within the broad-band service area; and

allocating the FDD resources to an access terminal located within the narrow-band service area.

2. The resource allocation method of claim 1, wherein defining the TDD and FDD resources comprises setting odd-numbered TDD resources as downlink TDD resources and setting even-numbered TDD resources as uplink TDD resources.

3. The resource allocation method of claim 2, wherein defining the TDD and FDD resources further comprises dividing the FDD resources in frequency into a plurality of downlink channels and a plurality of uplink channels.

The resource allocation method of claim 3, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating from the plurality of downlink and uplink channels, at least one downlink channel, at least one uplink channel, or at least one uplink and downlink channels, wherein the at least one uplink and downlink channels that are allocated are not in use in a neighboring cell.

5. The resource allocation method of claim 1, wherein defining the TDD and FDD resources comprises:

dividing the TDD resources in frequency into downlink TDD resources and uplink TDD resources;

dividing the FDD resources in frequency into downlink FDD resources and uplink FDD resources;

dividing the downlink FDD resources in frequency into a plurality of downlink channels; and

dividing the uplink FDD resources in frequency into a plurality of uplink channels.

6. The resource allocation method of claim 5, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to an access terminal of the access terminals at least one downlink channel that is not being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of downlink channels.

7. The resource allocation method of claim 5, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to an access terminal at least one uplink channel that is not being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of uplink channels.

8. The resource allocation method of claim 5, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to an access terminal at least one downlink and uplink channels that are not being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of downlink and uplink channels.

9. The resource allocation method of claim 1, wherein defining the TDD and FDD resources comprises:

dividing the TDD resources in time into downlink TDD resources and uplink TDD resources;

dividing the FDD resources in frequency into downlink FDD resources and uplink FDD resources;

dividing the downlink FDD resources in frequency into a plurality of downlink channels; and

dividing the uplink FDD resources in frequency into a plurality of uplink channels.

10. The resource allocation method of claim 9, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to the access terminal at least one downlink channel not used being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of downlink channels.

11. The resource allocation method of claim 9, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to the access terminal at least one uplink channel that are not being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of uplink channels.

12. The resource allocation method of claim 9, wherein allocating the FDD resources comprises allocating to the access terminal at least one downlink and uplink channels that are not being used by a neighboring access point from among the plurality of downlink and uplink channels.
