Abstract

A method and a system for transmitting data on the location of a mobile radio terminal to a receiver by means of a mobile radio network. An area that lies within the service range of the mobile radio network is defined and is subdivided into several subareas. A plurality of different call numbers are assigned to the receiver, who can be called at each of the call numbers. One respective call number is injectively allocated to the subareas. The location of the mobile radio terminal is determined and is made available to the mobile radio system when a call request is addressed to the receiver by the mobile radio terminal. The determined location is associated with a subarea and thus with a call number of the receiver. A connection between the mobile radio terminal and the receiver is established based on said call number.

Claims

1. A method for transmitting data on the location of a mobile radio terminal to a receiver by means of a mobile radio network, comprising the following:

defining an area located in the service range of the mobile radio network and dividing the area into several subareas;

assigning a plurality of different call numbers to the receiver, any one of these call numbers being valid for dialing the receiver;

allocating, respectively, each of these call numbers to the subareas;

determining the location of the mobile radio terminal during the call setup procedure;

making the location of the mobile radio terminal available to the mobile radio system when a call request is addressed to the receiver by the mobile radio terminal;

associating the determined location with a subarea and thus with a call number of the receiver;

establishing a connection between the mobile radio terminal and the receiver based on said call number;

determining the associated subarea by the receiver based on the call number used for the connection; and

supplying the receiver with information on the approximate location of the mobile radio terminal.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein in that the area substantially comprises an area defined by a community limit, city limit, county limit, district limit, state border, or country border.

3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the step of allocating call numbers is done injectively.

4. The method according to claim 1, wherein determining the location of the mobile radio terminal is accomplished with the aid of a positioning method.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the area substantially comprises the entire service range of the mobile radio network.

6. The method according to claim 1, wherein the area substantially comprises a regional service range of a rescue or service organization.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein substantially the service range of a radio cell of the mobile radio network is defined as a subarea.

8. The method according to claim 2, wherein substantially the service range of a radio cell of the mobile radio network is defined as a subarea.

9. The method according to claim 1, wherein substantially the service range of a certain group of radio cells of the mobile radio network is defined as a subarea.

10. The method according to claim 2, wherein substantially the service range of a certain group of radio cells of the mobile radio network is defined as a subarea.

11. The method according to claim 1, wherein the call is sent to a standardized call number that differs from the plurality of different call numbers.

12. The method according to claim 1, wherein the association of the determined location with the subarea and the call number assigned to the same is made in the mobile radio terminal.

13. The method according to claim 1, wherein the association of the determined location with the subarea and the call number assigned to the same is made in a power supply element of the mobile radio terminal.

14. The method according to claim 1, wherein in the event that location information is available in the form of geographic coordinates, additionally comprising the following:

reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format;

converting the location information into coding in a format suitable for suffix dialing;

transmitting the encoded location information by suffix dialing to the receiver during the connection between the mobile radio terminal and the receiver; and

detecting, decoding, and evaluating the suffix-dialed encoded location information by the receiver and as a result receipt of information about the location of the mobile radio terminal.

15. The method according to claim 1, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process as a positioning method by the mobile radio network by evaluating the identifier of the radio cell handling the mobile station.

16. The method according to claim 14, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process as a positioning method by the mobile radio network by evaluating the identifier of the radio cell handling the mobile station.

17. The method according claim 1, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process as a positioning method by the mobile radio terminal by means of propagation measurement of the radio signals transmitted between the mobile radio network and the mobile station.

18. The method of claim 14, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process as a positioning method by the mobile radio terminal by means of propagation measurement of the radio signals transmitted between the mobile radio network and the mobile station.

19. The method according to claim 1, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process based on navigation satellites as a positioning method by the mobile radio terminal.

20. The method of claim 14, and further comprising carrying out a location determination process based on navigation satellites as a positioning method by the mobile radio terminal.

21. The method according to claim 14, wherein the reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format is carried out by the mobile radio terminal.

22. The method according to claim 15, wherein the reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format is carried out by the mobile radio terminal.

23. The method according to claim 17, wherein the reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format is carried out by the mobile radio terminal.

24. The method according to claim 19, wherein the reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format is carried out by the mobile radio terminal.

25. The method according to claim 14, wherein the reformatting of the location information into a receiver-compatible format is carried out by a grid element of the mobile radio network.

61. A system for transmitting data on the location of a mobile radio terminal to a receiver by means of a mobile radio network, comprising:

means for determining an area located in the service range of the mobile radio network and for subdividing the area into a plurality of subareas;

means for assigning a plurality of different call numbers to the receiver, any one of these call numbers being valid for dialing the receiver;

means for associating a call number with each subarea;

means for determining the location of a mobile radio terminal by the mobile radio terminal itself or while setting up the call or by means of a positioning method, as soon as a call request addressed to the receiver by the mobile radio terminal is detected, the position information being provided to the mobile radio system;

means for associating the determined location information with a subarea and thus with a call number of the receiver;

means for establishing a connection between the mobile radio terminal and the receiver at this call number; and

means at the receiver which, based on the call number used for the connection, determine the respective subarea and provide information about the approximate location of the mobile radio terminal.
