Abstract

Arthroplasty jigs and related methods are disclosed. Some of the arthroplasty jigs may comprise a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone, and a positioning component. Certain of the methods may comprise providing such an arthroplasty jig, and aligning the jig body with a surface of a bone so that the positioning component provides at least one of a visible, audible, or tactile indication that such alignment has been achieved. Some of the arthroplasty jigs may comprise a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone, and that is marked with identifying information. Certain of the methods may comprise providing an arthroplasty jig comprising a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone, or providing an arthroplasty jig blank, and marking the arthroplasty jig or the arthroplasty jig blank with identifying information.

Claims

1. An arthroplasty jig comprising:

a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone; and

a positioning component that is configured to provide at least one of a visible, audible, or tactile indication when the jig body has aligned with the surface of the bone.

2. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the positioning component comprises a rod.

3. The arthroplasty jig of claim 2, wherein the jig body comprises an aperture, and the positioning component at least partially extends through the aperture.

4. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the positioning component comprises a projection extending from the jig body.

5. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the positioning component is hook-shaped.

6. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the positioning component is attached to the jig body.

7. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the positioning component is integrally formed with the jig body.

8. The arthroplasty jig of claim 7, wherein the positioning component comprises a projection extending from the jig body.

9. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a femur.

10. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a tibia.

11. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in at least one of cutting, drilling, reaming, or resurfacing a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

12. The arthroplasty jig of claim 11, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in cutting a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

13. The arthroplasty jig of claim 11, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in drilling a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

14. The arthroplasty jig of claim 11, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in reaming a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

15. The arthroplasty jig of claim 11, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in resurfacing a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

16. The arthroplasty jig of claim 1, wherein the jig body comprises at least one slot or aperture that is configured to accept an instrument.

17. The arthroplasty jig of claim 16, wherein the at least one slot or aperture is configured to accept a cutting instrument.

18. The arthroplasty jig of claim 17, wherein the at least one slot or aperture is configured to accept a reciprocating saw blade.

19. The arthroplasty jig of claim 17, wherein the jig body is configured so that the cutting instrument can be used in conjunction with the arthroplasty jig to remove a portion of a bone to provide a substantially planar surface on the bone.

20. The arthroplasty jig of claim 19, wherein the substantially planar surface is configured to align with a surface of an implant device.

21. An arthroplasty jig comprising:

a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone,

wherein the arthroplasty jig is marked with identifying information.

22. The arthroplasty jig of claim 21, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a femur.

23. The arthroplasty jig of claim 21, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a tibia.

24. The arthroplasty jig of claim 21, wherein the identifying information is engraved into the jig body.

25. The arthroplasty jig of claim 21, wherein the identifying information is printed onto the jig body.

26. The arthroplasty jig of claim 21, wherein the identifying information is provided on a label that is affixed to the arthroplasty jig.

27. A method comprising:

providing an arthroplasty jig comprising a jig body and a positioning component; and

aligning the jig body with a surface of a bone so that the positioning component provides at least one of a visible, audible, or tactile indication that such alignment has been achieved.

28. The method of claim 27, wherein the positioning component comprises a rod.

29. The method of claim 28, wherein the jig body comprises an aperture, and the positioning component at least partially extends through the aperture.

30. The method of claim 27, wherein the positioning component comprises a projection extending from the jig body.

31. The method of claim 27, wherein the positioning component is hook-shaped.

32. The method of claim 27, wherein the positioning component is attached to the jig body.

33. The method of claim 27, wherein the positioning component is integrally formed with the jig body.

34. The method of claim 33, wherein the positioning component comprises a project extending from the jig body.

35. The method of claim 27, wherein the method comprises positioning the jig body on a surface of a femur.

36. The method of claim 27, wherein the method comprises positioning the jig body on a surface of a tibia.

37. The method of claim 27, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in at least one of cutting, drilling, reaming, or resurfacing a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

38. The method of claim 37, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in cutting a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

39. The method of claim 37, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in drilling a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

40. The method of claim 37, wherein the arthroplasty jig is configured for use in reaming a bone during an arthroplasty procedure.

41. The method of claim 27, wherein the jig body comprises at least one slot or aperture that is configured to accept an instrument.

42. The method of claim 41, wherein the at least one slot or aperture is configured to accept a cutting instrument.

43. The method of claim 42, wherein the at least one slot or aperture is configured to accept a reciprocating saw blade.

44. The method of claim 42, wherein the jig body is configured so that the cutting instrument can be used in conjunction with the jig body to remove a portion of a bone to provide a substantially planar surface on the bone.

45. The method of claim 44, wherein the substantially planar surface is configured to align with a surface of an implant device.

46. The method of claim 27, further comprising cutting the bone.

47. The method of claim 27, further comprising drilling the bone.

48. The method of claim 27, further comprising reaming the bone.

49. The method of claim 27, further comprising resurfacing the bone.

50. A method comprising:

providing an arthroplasty jig comprising a jig body that is configured to align with a surface of a bone; and

marking the arthroplasty jig with identifying information.

51. The method of claim 50, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a femur.

52. The method of claim 50, wherein the jig body is configured to align with a surface of a tibia.

53. The method of claim 50, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig with identifying information comprises printing the identifying information onto the arthroplasty jig.

54. The method of claim 50, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig with identifying information comprises engraving the arthroplasty jig with the identifying information.

55. The method of claim 50, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig with identifying information comprises affixing a label including the identifying information to the arthroplasty jig.

56. A method comprising:

providing an arthroplasty jig blank;

marking the arthroplasty jig blank with identifying information; and

forming an arthroplasty jig from the arthroplasty jig blank.

57. The method of claim 56, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig blank with identifying information comprises printing the identifying information onto the arthroplasty jig blank.

58. The method of claim 56, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig blank with identifying information comprises engraving the arthroplasty jig blank with the identifying information.

59. The method of claim 56, wherein marking the arthroplasty jig blank with identifying information comprises affixing a label including the identifying information to the arthroplasty jig blank.
