Abstract

Implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery systems and articles are provided.

Claims

1. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a delivery member in the form of a wire or a slotted hypotube;

a sheath;

an endoprosthesis disposed between the delivery member and the sheath; and

a second member configured so that;

when the sheath moves proximally or distally with respect to the delivery member, the endoprosthesis remains substantially stationary in a longitudinal direction with respect to the delivery member; and

when the delivery member moves proximally or distally, the endoprosthesis remains substantially stationary with respect to the delivery member.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a wire.

3. The system of claim 1, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a slotted hypotube.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the tube is disposed over a guidewire.

5. The system of claim 1, wherein the endoprosthesis is a self-expanding prosthesis.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member is disposed between the delivery member and the endoprosthesis.

7. The system of claim 6, further comprising a proximal sub-bumper located proximal to the second member and attached to the delivery member, the proximal sub-bumper having a diameter, and a distal sub-bumper located distal to the second member and attached to the delivery member, the distal sub-bumper having a diameter,

wherein the second member has a lumen having a diameter larger than a diameter of the delivery member and through which the delivery member extends, the diameter of the lumen being smaller than the diameter of the proximal and distal sub-bumpers.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member is disposed on the delivery member.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member comprises a plurality of members.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member comprises a coating supported by the delivery member.

11. The system of claim 10, wherein the coating has one or more grooves into which the endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed.

12. The system of claim 10, wherein the coating has a deformable surface against which the endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed.

13. The system of claim 10, wherein the coating comprises a polymer.

14. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member comprises a seating member.

15. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member comprises a plurality of seating members.

16. The system of claim 1, wherein the second member comprises windings of a material supported by the delivery member.

17. The system of claim 16, wherein the material of the windings has a durometer of from about 65 A to about 55 D.

18. The system of claim 16, wherein the windings have an average width and an average pitch, and a ratio of the average pitch to the average width is at least about two.

19. The system of claim 16, wherein the windings have an average width and an average pitch, and a ratio of the average pitch to the average width is at most about five.

20. The system of claim 1, wherein the endoprosthesis includes a radiopaque material.

21. The system of claim 1, further comprising a bumper connected to the delivery member, the bumper being proximal to the endoprosthesis, and the bumper being configured to substantially prevent proximal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved proximally.

22. The system of claim 21, further comprising a proximal sub-bumper located proximal to the bumper and attached to the delivery member, the proximal sub-bumper having a diameter, and a distal sub-bumper located distal to the bumper and attached to the delivery member, the distal sub-bumper having a diameter, wherein the bumper has a lumen having a diameter larger than a diameter of the delivery member and through which the delivery member extends, the diameter of the lumen being smaller than the diameter of the proximal and distal sub-bumpers.

23. The system of claim 1, further comprising a tip connected to the delivery member, the tip being distal to the endoprosthesis, and the tip being configured to substantially prevent distal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved distally.

24. The system of claim 23, wherein the tip is bullet-shaped.

78. A method, comprising at least partially disposing the system of claim 1 into a body lumen of a subject.

25. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a delivery member in the form of a wire or a slotted hypotube;

a sheath;

an endoprosthesis disposed between the delivery member and the sheath; and

a seating member disposed between the delivery member and the endoprosthesis.

26. The system of claim 25, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a wire.

27. The system of claim 25, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a slotted hypotube.

28. The system of claim 25, wherein the system comprises a plurality of seating members disposed between the delivery member and the endoprosthesis.

29. The system of claim 25, wherein the seating member is disposed on the delivery member.

30. The system of claim 25, wherein the seating member comprises a polymer.

31. The system of claim 25, wherein the seating member comprises a material having a durometer of about 55 D or less.

32. The system of claim 25, wherein the seating member applies a radial force to the endoprosthesis so that the endoprosthesis forms a friction fit with the sheath.

33. The system of claim 25, wherein the endoprosthesis includes a radiopaque material.

34. The system of claim 25, further comprising a bumper connected to the delivery member, the bumper being proximal to the endoprosthesis, and the bumper being configured to substantially prevent proximal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved proximally.

35. The system of claim 25, further comprising a tip connected to the delivery member, the tip being distal to the endoprosthesis, and the tip being configured to substantially prevent distal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved distally.

36. The system of claim 35, wherein the tip is bullet-shaped.

79. A method, comprising at least partially disposing the system of claim 25 into a body lumen of a subject.

37. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a delivery member in the form of a wire or a slotted hypotube;

a sheath;

an endoprosthesis disposed between the delivery member and the sheath; and

a coating supported by the delivery member and disposed between the delivery member and the endoprosthesis.

38. The system of claim 37, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a wire.

39. The system of claim 37, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a slotted hypotube.

40. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating has one or more grooves into which the endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed.

41. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating has a deformable surface against which the endoprosthesis can be at least partially disposed.

42. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating is disposed on the delivery member.

43. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating comprises a polymer.

44. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating comprises a material having a durometer of about 55 D or less.

45. The system of claim 37, wherein the coating applies a radial force to the endoprosthesis so that the endoprosthesis forms a friction fit with the sheath.

46. The system of claim 37, wherein the endoprosthesis includes a radiopaque material.

47. The system of claim 37, further comprising a bumper connected to the delivery member, the bumper being proximal to the endoprosthesis, and the bumper being configured to substantially prevent proximal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved proximally.

48. The system of claim 37, further comprising a tip connected to the delivery member, the tip being distal to the endoprosthesis, and the tip being configured to substantially prevent distal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved distally.

49. The system of claim 48, wherein the tip is bullet-shaped.

80. A method, comprising at least partially disposing the system of claim 37 into a body lumen of a subject.

50. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a delivery member;

a sheath;

an endoprosthesis disposed between the delivery member and the sheath; and

windings of a material supported by the delivery member.

51. The system of claim 50, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a wire.

52. The system of claim 50, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a tube.

53. The system of claim 52, wherein the tube is a slotted hypotube.

54. The system of claim 50, wherein the material has a durometer of from about 65 A to about 55 D.

55. The system of claim 50, wherein the material comprises a polymer.

56. The system of claim 50, wherein the windings have an average width and an average pitch, and a ratio of the average pitch to the average width is at least about two.

57. The system of claim 50, wherein the windings have an average width and an average pitch, and a ratio of the average pitch to the average width is at most about five.

58. The system of claim 50, wherein the windings are disposed on the delivery member.

59. The system of claim 50, wherein the windings apply a radial force to the endoprosthesis so that the endoprosthesis forms a friction fit with the sheath.

60. The system of claim 50, wherein the endoprosthesis includes a radiopaque material.

61. The system of claim 50, further comprising a bumper connected to the delivery member, the bumper being proximal to the endoprosthesis, and the bumper being configured to substantially prevent proximal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved proximally.

62. The system of claim 50, further comprising a tip connected to the delivery member, the tip being distal to the endoprosthesis, and the tip being configured to substantially prevent distal movement of the endoprosthesis when the sheath is moved distally.

63. The system of claim 62, wherein the tip is bullet-shaped.

81. A method, comprising at least partially disposing the system of claim 50 into a body lumen of a subject.

64. An article, comprising:

a first material having a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion disposed between the first and second portions; and

windings of a second material supported by the first and second portions of the first material,

wherein the second material is unsupported by the third portion of the first material, and the article is a guidewire.

65. The article of claim 64, wherein the first material is in the form of a wire.

66. The article of claim 64, wherein the first material comprises a metal, an alloy, or a plastic.

67. The article of claim 64, wherein the second material comprises rubber, synthetic rubber, latex, polyurethane/silicone combinations, [poly(styrene-b-isobutylene-b-styrene)], or poly-(ether block amide).

68. The article of claim 64, wherein the third portion has a length of from about 2 cm to about 10 cm.

69. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a wire, comprising;

a first material having a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion disposed between the first and second portions; and

windings of a second material supported by the first and third portions of the first material;

a sheath; and

an endoprosthesis disposed between the wire and the sheath.

70. The system of claim 69, wherein the wire is a guidewire.

71. The system of claim 69, wherein the endoprosthesis surrounds the third portion of the first material of the wire.

72. The system of claim 69, wherein the endoprosthesis is located between the first and second portions of the first material of the wire.

73. The system of claim 69, further comprising a first bumper supported by the windings of the second material of the wire, the first bumper being proximal to the endoprosthesis.

74. The system of claim 73, further comprising a second bumper supported by the windings of the second material of the wire, the second bumper being distal to the endoprosthesis.

75. The system of claim 69, wherein the endoprosthesis includes a radiopaque material.

76. The system of claim 69, further comprising a tip connected to the wire, the tip being distal to the endoprosthesis.

77. The system of claim 76, wherein the tip is bullet-shaped.

82. A method, comprising at least partially disposing the system of claim 71 into a body lumen of a subject.

83. An implantable medical endoprosthesis delivery system, comprising:

a delivery member;

an element having a first end, a second end, and a lumen extending from the first end to the second end;

a first sub-bumper;

a second sub-bumper; and

a sheath,

wherein;

the delivery member is disposed in the lumen of the element;

the first sub-bumper is adjacent the first end of the element;

the second sub-bumper is adjacent the second end of the element; and

the element, the first sub-bumper and the second sub-bumper are disposed within the sheath.

84. The system of claim 83, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a wire.

85. The system of claim 83, wherein the delivery member is in the form of a slotted hypotube.

86. The system of claim 85, wherein the tube is disposed over a guidewire.

87. The system of claim 83, wherein the first and second sub-bumpers substantially prevent movement of the element along the delivery member.

88. The system of claim 83, wherein the delivery member can rotate within the element without applying a torque to the element.

89. The system of claim 83, wherein the first sub-bumper has a lumen, the second sub-bumper has a lumen, and the delivery member is disposed within the lumen of the first sub-bumper and the lumen of the second sub-bumper.

90. The system of claim 83, wherein the first sub-bumper has an outer diameter that is larger than a diameter of the lumen of the element, and the second sub-bumper has an outer diameter that is larger than a diameter of the lumen of the element.

91. The system of claim 83, further comprising an implantable medical endoprosthesis disposed within the sheath.

92. The system of claim 91, wherein the implantable medical endoprosthesis at least partially surrounds the element.

93. The system of claim 91, further comprising a second element that has a first end, a second end, and a lumen extending from the first end to the second end, wherein the delivery member is disposed in the lumen of the second element.

94. The system of claim 93, further comprising:

a third sub-bumper; and

a fourth sub-bumper,

wherein;

the third sub-bumper is adjacent the first end of the second element;

the fourth sub-bumper is adjacent the second end of the second element; and

the second element, the third sub-bumper and the fourth sub-bumper are disposed within the sheath.

95. The system of claim 93, further comprising a third element that has a first end, a second end, and a lumen extending from the first end to the second end, wherein the delivery member is disposed in the lumen of the third element.

96. The system of claim 95, further comprising:

a fifth sub-bumper; and

a sixth sub-bumper,

wherein;

the fifth sub-bumper is adjacent the first end of the third element;

the sixth sub-bumper is adjacent the second end of the third element; and

the third element, the fifth sub-bumper and the sixth sub-bumper are disposed within the sheath.
