Abstract

Methods, systems, and software for managing development components or other enterprise content—whether developed internally or by third parties—are described herein. One method for managing reusable development components includes identifying a first development component of a first type. This first development component is stored in a repository, with the repository including a plurality of other development components with at least a second development component of a second type. The method then includes presenting an interface to a user operable to display information for at least the first and second development components.

Claims

1. A method for managing reusable development components comprising:

identifying a first development component of a first type;

storing the first development component in a repository, the repository including a plurality of other development components with at least a second development component of a second type and at least a subset of the development components comprising reusable components; and

presenting an interface to a user operable to display information for at least the first and second development components.

2. The method of claim 1, the first development component created by a first developer and the second development component created by a second developer.

3. The method of claim 1, the interface presented in response to a request by the user and comprising a searching component, the method further comprising:

presenting the searching component to the user;

selecting development components based on a requested search from the user; and

displaying information associated with at least a portion of the selected components.

4. The method of claim 3, further comprising:

receiving a selection of at least one development component; and

allowing the user to acquire the selected development component.

5. The method of claim 4, wherein allowing the user to acquire the selected development component comprises:

billing the user based on associated costs for the selected development component; and

allowing the user to download the development component upon payment.

6. The method of claim 1, the repository comprising a first and second repository.

7. The method of claim 6, the first repository comprising a local repository and the second repository comprising a remote repository.

8. The method of claim 6, the first repository comprising a first type of repository and the second repository comprising a second type of repository.

9. The method of claim 1 further comprising allowing the user to execute an interactive trial of one of the development components associated with the displayed information.

10. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a tag for the first development component to facilitate subsequent searches.

11. The method of claim 1, the repository further storing automatically identified information involving relationships among two or more development components.

12. The method of claim 1, the interface further operable to display an expert locator, one or more discussion groups, and usage metrics.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising authenticating the user via the interface prior to displaying the information.

14. The method of claim 1, further comprising automatically filtering the displayed information based on a role of the user.

15. Software for managing reusable development components comprising computer readable instructions operable to:

identify a first development component of a first type;

store the first development component in a repository, the repository including a plurality of other development components with at least a second development component of a second type; and

display information for at least the first and second development components via a user interface.

16. The software of claim 15, the first development component created by a first developer and the second development component created by a second developer.

17. The software of claim 16 operable to display the information in response to a request by the user and the user interface comprising a searching component, the software further operable to:

present the searching component to the user;

select development components based on a requested search from the user; and

display information associated with at least a portion of the selected components.

18. The software of claim 17, further operable to:

receive a selection of at least one development component; and

allow the user to acquire the selected development component.

19. The software of claim 18, wherein allowing the user to acquire the selected development component comprises the software operable to:

bill the user based on associated costs for the selected development component; and

allow the user to download the development component upon payment.

20. The software of claim 15, the repository comprising a first and second repository.

21. The software of claim 18, the first repository comprising a local repository and the second repository comprising a remote repository.

22. The software of claim 21, the first repository comprising a first type of repository and the second repository comprising a second type of repository.

23. The software of claim 15 further operable to execute an interactive trial of one of the development components associated with the displayed information in response to a user request.

24. The software of claim 23 further operable to process a tag of the first development component, received during the interactive trial, to facilitate subsequent searches.

25. The software of claim 15, the repository further storing automatically identified information involving relationships among two or more development components.

26. The software of claim 15 further operable to display an expert locator, one or more discussion groups, and usage metrics via the user interface.

27. The software of claim 15 further operable to authenticate the user via the interface prior to displaying the information.

28. The software of claim 15 further operable to automatically filter the displayed information based on a role of the user.
