1. Apparatus comprising:
- an automated banking machine including;
a display;
at least one input device, wherein the at least one input device includes a card reader operative to read indicia corresponding to financial accounts from machine user cards;
a check reading device;
at least one cash dispenser;
at least one processor in the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one processor is in operative connection with the at least one cash dispenser, the check reading device, the at least one input device, and the display;
at least one financial account computer, wherein the at least one financial account computer is located remotely from the automated banking machine and is in operative communication with the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one financial account computer is in operative connection with at least one data store, wherein the at least one data store includes data corresponding to a plurality of financial accounts;
at least one consumer interface device in operative connection with the at least one financial account computer;
wherein the at least one consumer interface device is operative to receive from an account holder, check identifying data, wherein the check identifying data is usable to identify a check drawn on one of the plurality of financial accounts, wherein the one financial account is associated with the account holder, and a check amount, and wherein the at least one consumer interface device is operative to cause the at least one financial account computer to determine that the check can be validly written in such amount based on information stored in the at least one data store and to provide the account holder with certification data responsive to the determination by the at least one financial account computer;
wherein the automated banking machine and at least one financial account computer are operative such that input of the certification data and the check by a person through the at least one input device and the check accepting device of the automated banking machine respectively, is operative to cause the delivery of cash from the automated banking machine in exchange for the check without a requirement for such person to input data to the automated banking machine that is usable to identify the person.

Abstract
A card actuated automated banking machine (152, 198, 200) includes a plurality of transaction function devices. The transaction function devices include a card reader (170), a printer (174), a bill dispenser (176), a coin dispenser (178), a display (182), a check imaging device (186) and at least one processor (190). The automated banking machine is operative responsive to receiving a check and certification data to dispense cash in exchange for the check. The person presenting the check need not provide user identifying inputs through input devices in order to receive cash for the check. A check recipient prior to presenting the check for payment is also enabled to verify that the check will be paid through communication with at least one computer (204) through at least one consumer interface device (208).

an automated banking machine including; a display; at least one input device, wherein the at least one input device includes a card reader, wherein the card reader is operative to read indicia on cards, wherein the indicia corresponds to financial accounts; a check reader; a cash dispenser; at least one processor in the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one processor is in operative connection with the display, the at least one input device, the check reader, and the cash dispenser, and where the at least one processor is operative to cause the automated banking machine to operate to receive a check through operation of the check reader from a person and dispense cash through operation of the cash dispenser to such person responsive to receipt of the check, without receiving through any of the input devices, data usable to identify the person. - View Dependent Claims (22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34)
