Abstract

The present invention relates to management of information relating to medical fluids, containers therefor, and medical fluid administration devices for administering such medical fluids to patients. Data tags (e.g., RFID tags) are generally associated with containers of the invention and may be electromagnetically read from and/or written to using an electromagnetic device, for example, that may be associated with a medical fluid administration device of the invention.

Claims

1. A syringe containing medical fluid for use in a medical imaging procedure comprising:

a data tag for storing data identifying one or more of a software update for a powered medical fluid administration device, a product promotion, and an electronic coupon code for sales of further products.

2. A medical syringe comprising:

a medical fluid for use in a medical imaging procedure;

a body containing the medical fluid and having a syringe tip at one end;

a data tag for storing data identifying one or more of a software update for a powered medical fluid administration device, a product promotion, and an electronic coupon code for sales of further products.

3. The medical syringe of claim 2 wherein the medical fluid comprises a contrast media.

4. The medical syringe of claim 2 wherein the medical fluid comprises a radiopharmaceutical.

5. The medical syringe of claim 2 wherein the body comprises:

a syringe tip at one end; and

a base adapted to be connected to a powered medical fluid administration device.

6. The medical syringe of claim 2 wherein the data tag is mounted on the body.

7. The medical syringe of claim 2 wherein the data tag is mounted on the base.

8. A powered medical fluid administration device supporting a container filled with a fluid used in a medical procedure, the container having a data tag storing data, and the administration device comprising:

an electromagnetic device for reading data from the data tag to identify one or more of configuration information for the administration device, a software update for the administration device, a product promotion, and an electronic coupon code for purchases of further products, the configuration information being used by the administration device to execute a self-configuration cycle upon reading of the data tag.

9. A method for communicating data associated with a syringe containing a medical fluid for use in a medical imaging procedure, the method comprising:

affixing a data tag to the syringe; and

writing data associated with the syringe containing the medical fluid to the data tag.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein data comprises one or more of a software update for a powered medical fluid administration device, a product promotion, and an electronic coupon code for sales of further products.

11. A method for communicating data associated with a syringe containing a medical fluid for use in a medical imaging procedure, the method comprising:

interrogating a data tag affixed to a syringe; and

retrieving data from the data tag.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein data comprises one or more of a software update for a powered medical fluid administration device, a product promotion, and an electronic coupon code for sales of further products.
