Abstract

Various embodiments for performing truncate operations in nonvolatile memory are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus may include a nonvolatile memory to perform one or more truncate operations on a data file written to the nonvolatile memory and a volatile memory to track a truncate operation performed in the nonvolatile memory. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a nonvolatile memory to perform one or more truncate operations on a data file written to said nonvolatile memory; and

a volatile memory to track a truncate operation performed in said nonvolatile memory.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, said nonvolatile memory to enforce a sequential addressing requirement.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, said nonvolatile memory comprising at least one of a NAND flash memory and a NOR flash memory.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, said volatile memory to track valid data.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, said volatile memory to track only the most recent truncate operation performed in said nonvolatile memory.

6. A system comprising:

a wireless interface comprising an antenna;

a nonvolatile memory coupled to said wireless interface, said nonvolatile memory to perform one or more truncate operations on a data file written to said nonvolatile memory; and

a volatile memory to track a truncate operation performed in said nonvolatile memory.

7. The system of claim 6, said nonvolatile memory to enforce a sequential addressing requirement.

8. The system of claim 6, said nonvolatile memory comprising at least one of a NAND flash memory and a NOR flash memory.

9. The system of claim 6, said volatile memory to track valid data.

10. The system of claim 6, said volatile memory to track only the most recent truncate operation performed in said nonvolatile memory.

11. A method comprising:

performing one or more truncate operations on a data file written to a nonvolatile memory; and

tracking a truncate operation in a volatile memory.

12. The method of claim 11, further comprising tracking valid data in the volatile memory.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein performing a truncate operation comprises writing a truncate object to the nonvolatile memory.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein tracking a truncate operation comprises tracking a truncate link in the volatile memory.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising tracking only the most recent truncate operation performed in the nonvolatile memory.

16. An article comprising a machine-readable storage medium containing instructions that if executed enable a system to:

perform one or more truncate operations on a data file written to nonvolatile memory; and

track a truncate operation in a volatile memory.

17. The article of claim 16, further comprising instructions that if executed enable a system to track valid data in the volatile memory.

18. The article of claim 16, further comprising instructions that if executed enable a system to write a truncate object to the nonvolatile memory.

19. The article of claim 16, further comprising instructions that if executed enable a system to track a truncate link in the volatile memory.

20. The article of claim 16, further comprising instructions that if executed enable a system to track only the most recent truncate operation performed in the nonvolatile memory.
