Abstract

A computer implemented method and system for automatically removing an event registration within an event notification infrastructure of a database system is disclosed. The method includes removing an event registration from an event queue automatically if a specified active period of time has elapsed. Further, the method includes removing an event registration from an event queue automatically if the event occurred N times where N can be specified at event registration. Also, the method includes removing an event registration from an event queue automatically if either the event occurred N times where N can be specified at event registration or a specified active period of time has elapsed. Moreover, the method includes removing an event registration from an event queue if a client explicitly requests removal of said event registration.

Claims

1. A computer implemented method for removing an event registration within an event notification infrastructure, said method comprising:

receiving said event registration;

logging said event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said event registration specifies an active period during which said event registration is valid;

determining if said active period of time has elapsed; and

removing said event registration from said event queue automatically if said active period of time has elapsed.

2. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:

receiving another event registration;

logging said another event registration into said event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said another event registration specifies that said another event registration remains valid for N occurrences of said event identified by said another event registration;

determining if an Nth occurrence of said event has occurred; and

removing said another event registration from said event queue automatically if said Nth occurrence of said event has occurred.

3. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:

notifying a client if an event identified by said event registration occurred during said active period

4. The method as recited in claim 3 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if there is a failure during said event notification.

5. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein said determining is performed by an event monitor of a database system.

6. The method as recited in claim 1 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if a client explicitly requests removal of said event registration.

7. The method as recited in claim 1, wherein said event registration identifies an event and wherein said event is a message being enqueued.

8. A computer implemented method for removing an event registration within an event notification infrastructure, said method comprising:

receiving said event registration;

logging said event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said event registration specifies that said event registration remains valid for N occurrences of an event identified by said event registration;

determining if an Nth occurrence of said event has occurred; and

removing said event registration from said event queue automatically if said Nth occurrence of said event has occurred.

9. The method as recited in claim 8 further comprising:

receiving another event registration;

logging said another event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said another event registration specifies an active period during which said another event registration is valid;

determining if said active period of time has elapsed; and

removing said another event registration from said event queue automatically if said active period of time has elapsed.

10. The method as recited in claim 8 further comprising:

notifying a client if said event identified by said event registration occurred when said event registration is valid.

11. The method as recited in claim 10 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if there is a failure during said event notification.

12. The method as recited in claim 8, wherein said determining is performed by an event monitor of a database system.

13. The method as recited in claim 8, wherein N is one.

14. The method as recited in claim 8 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if a client explicitly requests removal of said event registration.

15. The method as recited in claim 8, wherein an event is a message being enqueued.

16. A computer implemented method for removing an event registration within an event notification infrastructure, said method comprising:

receiving a first and a second event registration;

logging said first event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said first event registration specifies an active period during which said first event registration is valid;

determining if said active period of time has elapsed;

removing said first event registration from said event queue automatically if said active period of time has elapsed.

logging said second event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said second event registration specifies that said second event registration remains valid only for N occurrences of an event identified by said second event registration;

determining if an Nth occurrence of said event has occurred; and

removing said second event registration from said event queue automatically if said Nth occurrence of said event has occurred.

17. The method as recited in claim 16 further comprising:

notifying a client if said event identified by said event registration occurred when said event registration is valid.

18. The method as recited in claim 17 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if there is a failure during said event notification.

19. The method as recited in claim 16, wherein said determining is performed by an event monitor of a database system.

20. The method as recited in claim 16, wherein N is one.

21. The method as recited in claim 16 further comprising:

removing said event registration from said event queue if a client explicitly requests removal of said event registration.

22. The method as recited in claim 16, wherein an event is a message being enqueued.

23. A computer readable medium having stored therein instructions that when executed by a processor implements a method for removing an event registration within an event notification infrastructure, said method comprising:

receiving a first and a second event registration;

logging said first event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said first event registration specifies an active period during which said first event registration is valid;

determining if said active period of time has elapsed; and

removing said first event registration from said event queue automatically if said active period of time has elapsed.

logging said second event registration into an event queue of said event notification infrastructure, wherein said second event registration specifies that said second event registration remains valid only for N occurrences of an event identified by said second event registration;

determining if an Nth occurrence of said event has occurred; and

removing said second event registration from said event queue automatically if said Nth occurrence of said event has occurred.

24. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein said method further comprises:

notifying a client if said event identified by said event registration occurred when said event registration is valid.

25. The computer readable medium of claim 24, wherein said method further comprises:

removing said event registration from said event queue if there is a failure during said event notification.

26. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein said determining is performed by an event monitor.

27. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein N is one.

28. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein said method further comprises:

removing said event registration from said event queue if a client explicitly requests removal of said event registration.

29. The computer readable medium of claim 23, wherein an event is a message being enqueued.
