Abstract

A liquid injection and ratio control system is provided for blending an additive into a main flow line at a controlled ratio. The system automatically detects variances in temperature, pressure, and additive concentration and provides compensation thereto. The system also provides for automatic flow detection, calibration responsive to a level gauge, automated data collection, and wireless bi-directional communication.

Claims

10. The additive injection apparatus of apparatus of 9, wherein the second flowline comprises a sensor for generating a concentration input signal to the microcontroller.

11. The additive injection apparatus of claim 10, wherein the microcontroller generates an output signal to be received by an electronic device.

12. The additive injection apparatus of claim 11, wherein the microcontroller controls the motor in response to input signals received by the electrical microcontroller.

14. The additive injection apparatus of claim 13, wherein an electric relay is connected to an output of the microcontroller and an input to the motor.

15. The additive injection apparatus of claim 14, wherein a motor speed of the motor is controlled by a signal from a MOSFET transistor.

16. The additive injection apparatus of claim 15, wherein the MOSFET transistor receives a direct current signal from the microcontroller.

19-1. The additive injection apparatus of claim 19, wherein the electronic controller receives a temperature input from thermistor on the second line and calibrates the additive injector apparatus based upon the temperature input.

20-2. The additive injection apparatus of claim 19, wherein the electronic controller receives a temperature input from thermistor on the third line and calibrates the additive injector apparatus based upon the temperature input.

23. A method for injecting additive to a base fluid comprising the steps of:

a) pumping an additive into a base liquid at a pumping rate;

b) measuring a pressure of an additive-carrying line;

c) measuring a temperature of the additive-carrying line;

d) measuring a varying pressure differential across a fuel filter; and

e) calibrating the pumping rate by accounting for the pressure of the additive-carrying line, the temperature of the additive-carrying line, and the temperature of the base-liquid-carrying line.
