Abstract

A hanger is described for hanging an object from a generally vertical support rod. In one embodiment, the hanger comprises a hanger body, at least two hooks on the hanger body for receiving the support rod, and a gap between the at least two hooks for receiving a nut threaded on the support rod when the support rod is received in the at least two hooks. In another embodiment, the hanger comprises a hanger body, a first set of one or more hooks on the hanger body for receiving the support rod, and a second set of one or more hooks on the hanger body for receiving a portion of the object. In another embodiment, the hanger comprises a hanger body, a first set of one or more hooks on the hanger body defining a first hook-defined recess, and a second set of one or more hooks on the hanger body defining a second hook-defined recess. The first and second hook-defined recesses have different transverse dimensions for receiving support rods having respective first and second different diameters. Various embodiments are disclosed.

Claims

1. A hanger adapted for hanging an object from a generally vertical support rod, said hanger comprising

a hanger body,

a first set of one or more hooks on the hanger body for receiving said support rod, and

a second set of one or more hooks on the hanger body for receiving a portion of said object.

2. A hanger as set forth in claim 1 wherein said the one or more hangers of said first set extend from a first side of the hanger body and the one or more hangers of the second set extend from a second side of the hanger body.

3. A hanger as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first set of one or more hooks comprises at least two hooks spaced from one another, and a gap between the at least two hooks for receiving a nut threaded on said support rod.

4. A hanger as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a first tab extending from the hanger body, said first tab being field bendable when said support rod is received in said first set of one or more hooks to retain the support rod in said one or more hooks of the first set.

A hanger as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a second tab extending from the hanger body, said second tab being field bendable when said portion of the object is received in said second set of one or more hooks to retain said portion of the object in said one or more hooks of the second set.

A hanger as set forth in claim 1 wherein said hanger body is selectively usable in a first orientation in which the one or more hooks of said first set are positioned for receiving a generally vertical support rod having a first diameter and the one or more hooks of said second set are positioned for supporting an object, and a second orientation in which the one or more hooks of said first set are positioned for receiving a generally vertical support rod having a second diameter different from said first diameter and the one or more hooks of said second set are positioned for supporting an object.

A hanger as set forth in claim 1 wherein said one or more hooks of said first set define a first hook-defined recess and said one or more hooks of said second set define a second hook-defined recess, said first and second hook-defined recesses having different transverse dimensions for receiving support rods having said respective first and second different diameters.

8. A hanger as set forth in claim 1 wherein said first and second hook-defined recesses are on opposite sides of a plane defined by said hanger body.

9. A hanger adapted for hanging an object from a generally vertical support rod, said hanger comprising

a hanger body,

at least two hooks on the hanger body for receiving said support rod, and

a gap between the at least two hooks for receiving a nut threaded on the support rod when the support rod is received in said at least two hooks.

A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said gap is sized and contoured to permit relative vertical movement between the hanger and the nut from a first position in which the nut is in the gap and is freely rotatable on the rod to a second position in which the nut is in the gap and is prevented from rotation by contact of the nut with the hanger.

A hanger as set forth in claim 10 further comprising a nut-receiving recess in the hanger body for receiving the nut when the nut is in said first position, said nut being movable out of the nut-receiving recess to said second position in which the nut is adapted to contact said hanger body to prevent rotation of the nut on the support rod.

12. A hanger as set forth in claim 11 wherein said nut-receiving recess comprises a channel formed in the hanger body having opposite side walls and a base wall spaced from a plane of the hanger body on a side of the plane opposite said two hooks.

13. A hanger as set forth in claim 11 wherein said gap is further defined by opposing edges of said at least two hooks.

14. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 further comprising a tab extending from the hanger body, said tab being field bendable when said support rod is received in said at least two hooks to retain the support rod in said hooks.

15. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 further comprising a second set of one or more hooks on the hanger body for receiving a portion of said object.

16. A hanger as set forth in claim 15 further comprising a tab extending from the hanger body, said tab being field bendable when said portion of the object is received in said second set of one or more hooks to retain said portion of the object in said one or more hooks of the second set.

17. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured for a threaded connection with a rail of a cable tray.

18. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a hook for receiving a rail of a cable tray.

19. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a channel for receiving a rail of a cable tray.

20. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a generally horizontal bar for providing underlying support to a cable tray.

21. A hanger as set forth in claim 9 wherein said hanger body is configured as a generally horizontal bar adapted to underlie a cable tray.

22. A hanger adapted for hanging an object from a generally vertical support rod, said hanger comprising

a hanger body,

a first set of one or more hooks on the hanger body defining a first hook-defined recess, and

a second set of one or more hooks on the hanger body defining a second hook-defined recess,

said first and second hook-defined recesses having different transverse dimensions for receiving support rods having respective first and second different diameters.

A hanger as set forth in claim 22 further comprising a first tab extending from the hanger body, said first tab being field bendable when said first support rod is received in said first set of one or more hooks to retain the support rod in said one or more hooks of the first set, and a second tab extending from the hanger body, said second tab being field bendable when said second support rod is received in said second set of one or more hooks to retain said second support rod in said one or more hooks of the second set.

24. A hanger as set forth in claim 22 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured for a threaded connection with a rail of a cable tray.

25. A hanger as set forth in claim 22 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a hook for receiving a rail of a cable tray.

26. A hanger as set forth in claim 22 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a channel for receiving a rail of a cable tray.

27. A hanger as set forth in claim 22 wherein said hanger body comprises an extension configured as a generally horizontal bar for providing underlying support to a cable tray.

28. A hanger as set forth in claim 22 wherein said hanger body is configured as a generally horizontal bar adapted to underlie a cable tray.
