Plug connector with latching mechanism
First Claim
1. A plug connector adapted for mating with a complementary connector mounted to a panel, comprising:
- a housing comprising a base portion and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion, the tongue portion having a first surface and being sized to fit within the complementary connector, the base portion having a second surface disposed at a level on the housing that is above the first surface of the tongue portion;
a latch member comprising an engaging portion attached to the second surface of the base portion and a latching portion extending beyond the base portion and located above the first surface of the tongue portion; and
an actuating member having an operating portion extending beyond said base portion, a cooperating portion disposed between the latch member and said second surface of the base portion, and an intermediate portion interconnecting the operating portion and the cooperating portion, said actuating member being sized, structured and arranged such that movement of said actuating member away and toward said tongue portion caused the latching portion of the latch member to be raised and lowered relative to the first surface of the tongue portion; and
wherein the intermediate portion of the actuating member has a portion being sized, structured and arranged such that movement of the actuating member away and toward said tongue portion causing the portion of the intermediate portion to be compressed by the base portion and to provide elastic restoring force to the latching member.

Abstract
A plug connector includes a housing, a latch member and an actuating member. The housing includes a base portion and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion. The tongue portion has a first surface and is sized to fit within the complementary connector. The base portion has a second surface disposed at a level on the housing that is above the first surface of the tongue portion. The latch member includes an engaging portion attached to the second surface of the base portion and a latching portion extending beyond the base portion and located above the first surface of the tongue portion. The actuating member has an operating portion extending beyond said base portion, a cooperating portion disposed between the latch member and said second surface of the base portion, and an intermediate portion interconnecting the operating portion and the cooperating portion. The actuating member is sized, structured and arranged such that movement of said actuating member away and toward said tongue portion caused the latching portion of the latch member to be raised and lowered relative to the first surface of the tongue portion. The intermediate portion of the actuating member has a portion being sized, structured and arranged such that movement of the actuating member away and toward said tongue portion causing the portion of the intermediate portion to be compressed by the base portion and to provide elastic restoring force to the latching member.

14. A plug connector adapted for mating with a complementary connector, comprising:
-
a housing comprising a base portion and a tongue portion extending forwardly from the base portion, the tongue portion having a first surface and being sized to fit within the complementary connector, the base portion having a second surface disposed at a level on the housing that is above the first surface of the tongue portion;
a PCB received in the housing and comprising a front end engaged with the tongue portion and a rear end received in the base portion;
a cable comprising a plurality of conductors electrically connecting with the rear end of the PCB;
a latch member comprising a latch member comprising an engaging portion attached to the second surface of the base portion and a latching portion extending beyond the base portion and located above the first surface of the tongue portion; and
an actuating member having an operating portion extending beyond said base portion, a cooperating portion disposed between the latch member and said second surface of the base portion, and an intermediate portion interconnecting the operating portion and the cooperating portion, said actuating member being sized, structured and arranged such that movement of said actuating member away and toward said tongue portion caused the latching portion of the latch member to be raised and lowered relative to the first surface of the tongue portion; and
whereinthe intermediate portion of the actuating member has a pair of elastic sections being sized, structured and arranged such that movement of the actuating member away and toward said tongue portion causing the portion of the intermediate portion to be compressed by the base portion and to provide elastic restoring force to the latching member.

15. A plug connector comprising:
-
a housing having a circumferential step portion in a middle portion;
a grounding gasket assembled to said step portion;
a metallic shell assembled upon a top face of a rear portion of the housing;
a deflectable latch mechanism positioned around the middle portion;
an actuator protectively located between the metallic shell and the top face of the housing, said actuator defining a cooperation section engaged with the latch mechanism to urge the latch to move, an operation section exposed behind the housing for easy mutually operating the actuator, and an elastic section urging the actuator to be at a relaxed position where the latch mechanism is adapted to be locked to a corresponding complementary connector. - View Dependent Claims (16, 17, 18, 19, 20)
