Abstract
The subject matter disclosed herein relates to a system and method for transmitting messages between a mobile station and a base station in a wireless communication network. In one example, a mobile station is adapted to selectively transmit an origination message in response to receipt of a page message from a base station attempting to initiate a mobile-terminated call. The origination message may initiate a mobile-originated call or session enabling a bi-directional exchange of messages in a single call.

-
a transmitter adapted to transmit messages to a base station (BS) in an uplink portion of a wireless communication link;
a receiver adapted to receive messages from said BS in a downlink portion of said wireless communication link; and
a controller adapted to initiate transmission of an origination message in said uplink portion to initiate a mobile-originated (MO) call or session in response to receipt of a page message from said BS in said downlink portion. - View Dependent Claims (8, 9, 10, 11, 12)

13. An article comprising:
-
a storage medium comprising machine-readable instructions stored thereon which, if executed, are adapted to cause a computing platform to;
detect receipt of a page message from a base station (BS); and
initiate transmission of an origination message to initiate a mobile-originated (MO) call or session in response to said detected receipt of said page message. - View Dependent Claims (14, 15, 16, 17, 18)

19. An apparatus comprising:
-
means for receiving a page message from a base station (BS) at a mobile station (MS) attempting to initiate a call or session between the BS and the MS; and
means for transmitting an origination message to said BS in response to said page message to initiate a mobile-originated (MO) call or session. - View Dependent Claims (20, 21, 22)

23. A method for communication, comprising:
-
receiving a downlink message from a base station (BS) to a mobile station (MS) to invoke origination of a MT SMS call between the BS and the MS;
in response to the downlink message, sending an uplink message from the MS to the BS so as to cause a MO SMS call to be set up on a traffic channel between the BS and the MS;
receiving at the MS a MT SMS message over the traffic channel from the BS; and
responding to the MT SMS message by sending a MO SMS message over the traffic channel from the MS to the BS. - View Dependent Claims (24)

25. A mobile station (MS), comprising:
-
a transmitter; and
a receiver, wherein said MS is further adapted to;
receive a downlink message from a base station (BS) at said receiver to invoke origination of a MT SMS call between the BS and the MS;
in response to the downlink message, transmit an uplink message through said MS to the BS so as to cause a MO SMS call to be set up on a traffic channel between the BS and the MS;
receive at said receiver an MT SMS message over the traffic channel from the BS; and
respond to the MT SMS message by transmitting a MO SMS message through said transmitter over the traffic channel from the MS to the BS.
