Abstract

A cordless welding machine includes first and second batteries being connected in parallel, a ground clamp connected to the first and second batteries, and a first welding electrode connected to the first and second batteries. The batteries providing a current output of at least about 40 amps.

Claims

1. A welding machine comprising:

first and second batteries being connected in parallel;

a ground clamp connected to the first and second batteries; and

a first welding electrode connected to the first and second batteries;

the batteries providing a current output of at least about 40 amps.

2. The welding machine of claim 1 wherein the first and second batteries are power tool batteries.

3. The welding machine of claim 1, wherein the first battery is connectable to a power tool.

4. The welding machine of claim 1, further comprising a charger for charging at least one of the first and second batteries.

5. The welding machine of claim 4, further comprising a cord for connecting the charger to an AC source.

6. The welding machine of claim 5, wherein the cord is at least a hundred feet long.

7. The welding machine of claim 5, wherein the cord has a gauge rating of at least 18 AWG.

8. The welding machine of claim 1, further comprising a discharge control circuit for controlling the discharge of the at least one of the first and second batteries.

9. The welding machine of claim 8. wherein the discharge control circuit is disposed within the at least one of the first and second batteries.

10. The welding machine of claim 1, further comprising a housing for supporting the first and second batteries.

11. The welding machine of claim 10, wherein the housing has wheels.

12. The welding machine of claim 10, wherein the housing has at least one shoulder strap.

13. The welding machine of claim 1, wherein a first diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the first battery, and a second diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the second battery.

14. The welding machine of claim 1 having a current-to-weight ratio of at least about 3.17 amps/pound.

22. The welding machine of claim 14, further comprising a discharge control circuit for controlling the discharge of the at least one of the first and second batteries.

23. The welding machine of claim 22, wherein the discharge control circuit is disposed within the at least one of the first and second batteries.

15. A welding machine comprising:

first and second batteries being connected in parallel;

a ground clamp connected to the first and second batteries;

a first welding electrode connected to the first and second batteries;

a first diode disposed between the first welding electrode and the first battery; and

a second diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the second battery.

16. The welding machine of claim 15, wherein the first and second batteries are power tool batteries.

17. The welding machine of claim 15, wherein the first battery is connectable to a power tool.

18. The welding machine of claim 15, further comprising a charger for charging at least one of the first and second batteries.

19. The welding machine of claim 18, further comprising a cord for connecting the charger to an AC source.

20. The welding machine of claim 19, wherein the cord is at least a hundred feet long.

21. The welding machine of claim 19, wherein the cord has a gauge rating of at least 18 AWG.

24. The welding machine of claim 15 having a current-to-weight ratio of at least about 3.17 amps/pound.

25. A welding machine comprising:

first and second batteries being connected in parallel;

a ground clamp connected to the first and second batteries;

a first welding electrode connected to the first and second batteries; and

a charger for charging at least one of the first and second batteries.

26. The welding machine of claim 25, further comprising a first diode disposed between the first welding electrode and the first battery, and a second diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the second battery.

27. The welding machine of claim 25, wherein the first and second batteries are power tool batteries.

28. The welding machine of claim 25, wherein the first battery is connectable to a power tool.

29. The welding machine of claim 25, further comprising a cord for connecting the charger to an AC source.

30. The welding machine of claim 29, wherein the cord is at least a hundred feet long.

31. The welding machine of claim 29, wherein the cord has a gauge rating of at least 18 AWG.

32. The welding machine of claim 25, further comprising a discharge control circuit for controlling the discharge of the at least one of the first and second batteries.

33. The welding machine of claim 32, wherein the discharge control circuit is disposed within the at least one of the first and second batteries.

34. The welding machine of claim 25 having a current-to-weight ratio of at least about 3.17 amps/pound.

35. A welding machine comprising:

first and second batteries being connected in parallel;

a ground clamp connected to the first and second batteries; and

a first welding electrode connected to the first and second batteries;

wherein the welding machine has a current-to-weight ratio of at least about 3.17 amps/pound.

36. The welding machine of claim 35, wherein the first and second batteries are power tool batteries.

37. The welding machine of claim 35, wherein the first battery is connectable to a power tool.

38. The welding machine of claim 35, further comprising a charger for charging at least one of the first and second batteries.

39. The welding machine of claim 38, further comprising a cord for connecting the charger to an AC source.

40. The welding machine of claim 39, wherein the cord is at least a hundred feet long.

41. The welding machine of claim 39, wherein the cord has a gauge rating of at least 18 AWG.

42. The welding machine of claim 35, further comprising a discharge control circuit for controlling the discharge of the at least one of the first and second batteries.

43. The welding machine of claim 42, wherein the discharge control circuit is disposed within the at least one of the first and second batteries.

44. The welding machine of claim 35, wherein a first diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the first battery, and a second diode is disposed between the first welding electrode and the second battery.

45. A cordless plasma cutter comprising:

a first battery;

an arc generator circuit connected to the first battery;

a ground clamp connected to the first battery;

a first electrode connected to the first battery; and

a second electrode connected to the arc generator circuit.

46. The plasma cutter of claim 45, wherein the first battery is a power tool battery.

47. The plasma cutter of claim 45, wherein the first and second electrodes are part of a gun.
