1. An imager module comprising:
- an optics frame configured to accommodate multiple imaging channels wherein the multiple imaging channels are each oriented substantially orthogonal to an imager die; and
at least one imaging channel configured to couple with the optics frame substantially orthogonal to the imager die, wherein each imaging channel comprises at least two lens groups, positioned at different distances from the imager die along a central axis of the imaging channel, wherein at least one of the lens groups is movable with respect to at least one other lens group to focus the imaging channel.

Abstract
Embodiments of a solid-state camera system, particularly an imager module and an associated assembly method are described herein. Embodiments of the imager module include an optics frame configured to accommodate multiple optical channels, each optical channel comprising a lower lens group and an upper lens group. At least one of the lens groups is movable with respect to the other and to image sensors. The imaging sensors may be contained in an imager die. Embodiments further include an assembly method, including an optical configuration and method for mounting and focusing to image sensor microelectronic circuitry. Various embodiments are directed toward packaging microelectronic imagers that are responsive to radiation in the visible light spectrum or radiation in other spectrums to provide a small imager module size suitable for automated manufacture at low cost but are not so limited.

16. A method for assembling an imaging module, the method comprising:

assembling a lower lens group assembly, comprising coupling a lower lens group into the lower lens group assembly for each of a plurality of optical channels;
inserting an upper lens group assembly into a lens barrel of the lower lens group assembly such that an upper lens group of the upper lens group assembly is positioned above the lower lens group, and wherein the upper lens group and the lower lens group are substantially centered about a central axis of the lens barrel; and
