1. A self-contained device for delivering an active agent into an eye of a subject, comprising:

  • a device housing;

    a first electrode assembly located at least partially within the housing and having a first electrode and a reservoir configured to contain the active agent, said first electrode assembly configured to contact and remain against a surface of the eye for a sufficient amount of time to deliver the active agent to the eye;

    a second electrode assembly located at least partially within the housing and having a second electrode configured to be opposite in polarity from the first electrode;

    a power source located at least partially within the housing and electrically coupled to the first electrode and to the second electrode; and

    a wireless communication component located at least partially within the housing and electrically coupled to at least one of the first electrode assembly, the second electrode assembly, or the power source, said wireless communication component being configured to wirelessly communicate with a remote wireless controller.
