Abstract

A staggered light unit has a top-bottom electrode lead. The light unit is insertable into a substrate having a metal/insulation/metal sandwich structure.

Claims

1. A light unit with staggered electrodes, comprising:

(1) a light unit, having a first electrode and a second electrode;

(2) a first metal lead, coupled to said first electrode, and having a first exposed conductive portion; and

(3) a second metal lead, coupled to said second electrode, and having a second exposed conductive portion staggered with said first exposed conductive portion to form a top-bottom electrode structure.

2. The light unit as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first metal lead has the same length as said second metal lead;

a top portion of said first metal lead being covered with an insulation material, a bottom portion of said first metal lead being said bottom electrode;

a top portion of said second metal lead being said top electrode and a bottom portion of said second metal lead being wrapped with insulation material.

3. The light unit as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first metal lead is a shorter lead and said second metal lead is a longer lead, said shorter lead being said top electrode;

a bottom portion of said longer lead being said bottom electrode, a top portion of the longer lead being wrapped with insulation material.

4. The light unit as claimed in claim 3, wherein said bottom portion of said bottom electrode is wider than said top portion of said bottom electrode.

5. The light unit as claimed in claim 1, further comprising:

a sleeve, wrapping top portions of both said leads and electronically coupled to said top electrode.

6. A light board for insertion of a light unit with staggered electrodes as defined in claim 1, said light board comprising:

a metal/insulation/metal sandwich structure, one of said metal coupling to said top electrode and the other metal coupling to said bottom electrode when said light unit is inserted into said light board.

7. A light board as claimed in claim 6, wherein said metal is selected from the group consisting of metal mesh and metal thin film.
