Abstract

Aspects of the invention provide an electronic paper display system that can include an electronic paper and the writing device. The writing device transmits power and baseband signals by using an electromagnetic coupling between a coil of the writing device and a coil of the electronic paper. The baseband signals, which are encoded by the writing device, are decoded by a decoder of the electronic paper and fed to the control circuit to illustrate images on a bi-stable display unit. The electronic paper has a power storage that temporarily stores power transmitted by using electromagnetic coupling for absorbing fluctuation of power in both transmission and consumption. The asynchronous design of this invention brings both robustness and low-power consumption.

Claims

1. A power supply monitoring circuit, comprising:

a voltage detecting unit that detects a voltage; and

a reset signal generating unit that outputs a reset signal if a value of the detected voltage is outside an allowable range.

2. The power supply monitoring circuit according to claim 1, the detected voltage being adapted to be supplied to a CPU from a power supply circuit.

3. The power supply monitoring circuit according to claim 2, the reset signal being adapted to be supplied to the CPU.

4. A power supply unit, comprising:

a power supply circuit configured to convert a voltage and to output the voltage; and

a power supply monitoring circuit configured to detect the voltage from the power supply circuit and to output a reset signal if a value of the voltage is outside an allowable range.

5. The unit according to claim 4, further comprising:

an antenna unit configured to receive an electromagnetic wave and to output a signal;

a rectifying circuit configured to receive the signal from the antenna unit and to rectify the signal; and

a smoothing circuit configured to (1) receive the rectified signal from the rectifying circuit, (2) convert the rectified signal into a direct current, and (3) output the direct current to the power supply circuit.

6. The unit according to claim 5, the smoothing circuit including a smoothing capacitor.

7. The unit according to claim 5, the antenna unit including a decoding unit configured to decode an encoded signal from the antenna unit.

8. The unit according to claim 4, further comprising a CPU configured to receive the reset signal from the power supply monitoring circuit.

9. The unit according to claim 4, further comprising a CPU configured to receive the voltage from the power supply circuit and to receive the reset signal from the power supply monitoring circuit.

10. The unit according to claim 9, the CPU being an asynchronous circuit.

11. The unit according to claim 10, the CPU being an asynchronous circuit that includes a poly-crystalline silicon TFT.

12. A display device, comprising:

a display unit;

a driving circuit; and

the unit according to claim 4.

13. A power supply monitoring circuit, comprising:

a current detecting unit that detects a current; and

a reset signal generating unit that outputs a reset signal if a value of the detected current is outside an allowable range.

14. A power supply unit, comprising:

a power supply circuit configured to convert a current and to output the current; and

a power supply monitoring circuit configured to detect the current from the power supply circuit and to output a reset signal if a value of the current is outside an allowable range.

15. The unit according to claim 14, further comprising:

an antenna unit configured to receive an electromagnetic wave and to output a signal;

a rectifying circuit configured to receive the signal from the antenna unit and to rectify the signal; and

a smoothing circuit configured to (1) receive the rectified signal from the rectifying circuit, (2) convert the rectified signal to a direct current, and to output the direct current to the power supply circuit.

16. The unit according to claim 14, further comprising a CPU configured to receive the current from the power supply circuit and to receive the reset signal from the power supply monitoring circuit.

17. A display device, comprising:

a display unit; and

the unit according to claim 14.
