Abstract

This invention relates generally to assistive devices, and more particularly refers to an automatic substance applicator system for applying or administering a substance to a receiving surface.

Claims

1. An applicator system comprising:

a reservoir configured to hold substance;

a pump coupled with said reservoir, said pump configured to draw said substance from said reservoir;

a tube coupled with said pump, said tube configured to receive said substance from said pump;

an applicator coupled with said tube, said applicator configured to receive said substance from said tube, and configured to place said substance onto a receiving surface; and

an actuator coupled with said applicator, said actuator configured to move said applicator to distribute said substance over the receiving surface.

2. The applicator system of claim 1 further comprising:

a holder coupled with said tube, said holder configured to maintain a position said applicator for distributing said substance over said receiving surface.

3. The applicator system of claim 2 wherein said holder comprises a receiving surface positioner configured to maintain said receiving surface in a fixed position while said applicator is distributing said substance.

4. The applicator system of claim 1 further comprising:

a controller configured to control said pump.

5. The applicator system of claim 4 wherein said controller is configured to control said actuator.

6. The applicator system of claim 1 wherein said actuator is configured to move said applicator across a Cartesian space to cover a pre-selected area of said receiving surface.

7. The applicator system of claim 6 wherein said Cartesian space comprises a pre-selected distance between a neutral position and said applicator.

8. The applicator system of claim 1 wherein said substance is nail polish.

9. The applicator system of claim 1 wherein said receiving surface is a fingernail.

10. The applicator system of claim 1 wherein said actuator is configured to operate at a plurality of speeds.

11. A method for automatically applying a substance to a receiving surface comprising the steps of:

pumping the substance from a reservoir to an applicator;

activating an actuator coupled with the applicator; and

applying the substance through the applicator to a receiving surface, the applicator being driven by the actuator.

12. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of:

setting the speed of the actuator to control distribution of the substance across the receiving surface.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of:

positioning the receiving surface with respect to the applicator.

14. The method of claim 11 further comprising the steps of:

coupling the pump to the applicator by means of a tube; and

coupling the tube and the applicator to position the applicator for distributing the substance on the receiving surface.

15. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of:

moving the applicator to distribute the substance on the receiving surface.

16. The method of claim 11 further comprising the step of:

adding the substance to the reservoir.

17. A medical system for delivering medication comprising:

a reservoir configured to hold a substance;

a pump coupled with said reservoir, said pump configured to draw said substance from said reservoir;

a tube coupled with said pump, said tube configured to receive said substance from said pump;

a medical applicator coupled with said tube, said medical applicator configured to receive said substance from said tube, and configured to administer said substance to a receiver;

an actuator coupled with said medical applicator, said actuator configured to position said medical applicator with respect to the receiver; and

an identification reader configured to receive identifying information associated with the receiver;

wherein said identifying information is configured to enable startup of said actuator and said pump; and

wherein said actuator and said pump are configured to deliver said medication through said tube and said medical applicator.

18. The medical system of claim 17 further comprising:

an identification database configured to;

receive, store, and compare said identifying information; and

provide an activation signal to a controller based on said identifying information if said identifying information matches stored information in said identification database; and

a timer configured to;

receive a timer signal from said controller to initialize said timer for dosage administration;

provide a pump signal to said pump switch to activate said pump; and

provide a regulator signal to a motor regulator to activate said actuator.

19. The medical system as in claim 18 further comprising:

a movement manager configured to;

provide a dosage location to said motor regulator; and

receive said dosage location from a service provider.
