Abstract

A method of transmitting data in a multi input, multi output (MIMO) system is disclosed. More specifically, the method includes selecting a primary antenna, based on satisfying at least one specified criteria, for transmitting a preamble, and transmitting the preamble via the primary antenna

Claims

1. A method of transmitting data in a multi input, multi output (MIMO) system, the method comprising:

selecting a primary antenna, based on satisfying at least one specified criteria, for transmitting a preamble; and

transmitting the preamble via the primary antenna.

2. The method of claim 1, further comprising transmitting overhead information via the primary antenna.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the overhead information includes pilot and medium access control (MAC).

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the data is at least one of code division multiplex (CDM) data and orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) data.

5. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one specified criteria includes an antenna having the best channel condition or a smallest index among available transmission antennas.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the preamble includes at least one of user identification, channel type, medium access control (MAC), and pilot.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the preamble is transmitted using a first portion of the basic transmission unit.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the basic transmission unit is slot with duration of 1.667 ms.

9. The method of claim 7, wherein the first portion is a ¼

-slot with duration of 400 chips.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein the ¼

-slot includes at least one of a code division multiplex (CDM) preamble, an orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) preamble, a CDM data, and OFDM data.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the primary antenna is used to transmit orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) data.

12. The method of claim 1, wherein the primary antenna is used to re-transmit the preamble.

13. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

selecting a secondary antenna, which is an antenna from the plurality of antennas non-selected as the primary antenna; and

transmitting the data via the secondary antenna.

14. The method of claim 13, wherein the data is at least one of code division multiplex (CDM) data and orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) data,

15. A method of transmitting data in a multi input, multi output (MIMO) system, the method comprising:

selecting an antenna from a plurality of transmission antennas as a primary antenna based on the antenna having the best channel condition or a smallest index from the plurality of transmission antennas for transmitting at least one preamble; and

transmitting at least one of the preamble and the data via the primary antenna.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising:

selecting a secondary antenna from the plurality of antennas, wherein the secondary antenna is the antenna other than the primary antenna; and

transmitting at least one of the preamble and the data via the secondary antenna.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising transmitting overhead information via the primary antenna.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the overhead information includes pilot and medium access control (MAC).

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the preamble and the data are assigned to a bandwidth as a whole.

20. A method of transmitting data in a multi input, multi output (MIMO) system, the method comprising:

selecting an antenna from a plurality of transmission antennas as a primary antenna based on the antenna having the best channel condition or a smallest index from the plurality of transmission antennas for transmitting at least one preamble; and

transmitting at least one of the preamble and the data via the primary antenna.

21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:

selecting at least one secondary antenna from the plurality of antennas, wherein the at least one secondary antenna is the at least one antenna other than the primary antenna; and

transmitting at least one of the preamble and the data via the at least one secondary antenna.
