Abstract

Emergency communication applications and methods interact with different communications devices, different users, and/or different communications networks to generate, enable, and/or transmit an Emergency Locator Signal to a communications address of the local communications network. According to exemplary embodiments, the transmitted Emergency Locator Signal communicates with the local communications network to identify a location of the calling party'"'"'s communications device (or alternate selected communications device) at a geographic location of an Emergency Communications Address. Thereafter, the location of the calling party'"'"'s communications device is communicated to emergency response personnel to better locate a victim in proximity to the calling party'"'"'s communications device.

Claims

1. A computer readable medium storing encoded instructions for performing the following:

associating an emergency locator profile with the at least one of an incoming line identification (ICLID) signal and an enhanced emergency response identification signal of an incoming communications signal from a calling party'"'"'s communications device to an emergency response communications address; and

using at least one of the emergency locator profile, an instruction transmitted from the calling party'"'"'s communications device, and an instruction transmitted from the emergency response communications address to generate the emergency locator signal.

The computer readable medium of claim 1, the emergency locator profile comprising (i) an originating communications address associated with a calling party'"'"'s communications device, (ii) the communications address of the local communications network, (iii) another communications device associated with the communications address of the local communications network, and (iv) an identifier of a building location of the other communications device associated with the communications address of the local communications network.

3. The computer readable medium of claim 2, the emergency locator profile further comprising (v) a parameter for controlling position locating transmission means and (vi) a parameter for monitoring the position locating transmission means.

4. The computer readable medium of claim 2, the emergency locator profile further comprising:

(v) a parameter for presenting a notification of an incoming emergency conference communication to the third party'"'"'s communications device, (vi) a communications parameter, and (vii) a third party control parameter.

5. The computer readable medium of claim 1, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

generating an emergency locator signal, the emergency locator signal comprising an identifier of an emergency communications address of a local communications network, the communications network communicating the emergency locator signal to the local communications network to identify a near real-time location of the calling party'"'"'s communications device at a geographic location of the emergency communications address, wherein position locating transmission means of the calling party'"'"'s communications device provide the near real-time location.

6. The computer readable medium of claim 5, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the emergency locator signal to the calling party communications device.

7. The computer readable medium of claim 5, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the emergency locator signal from at least one of the calling party communications device and the communications network to the other communications address of the local communications network.

8. The computer readable medium of claim 7, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the identifier of the building location of the other communications device to the emergency response communications address.

9. The computer readable medium of claim 5, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

activating the position locating transmission means of the communications device; and

associating the transmitted position location transmission means with a room location of the calling party communications device.

10. The computer readable medium of claim 8, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the room location of the calling party communications device to the communications network; and

communicating the room location of the calling party communications device to the emergency response communications address.

11. A communications method, comprising:

associating an emergency locator profile with the at least one of an incoming line identification (ICLID) signal and an enhanced emergency response identification signal of an incoming communications signal from a calling party'"'"'s communications device to an emergency response communications address; and

using at least one of the emergency locator profile, an instruction transmitted from the calling party'"'"'s communications device, and an instruction transmitted from the emergency response communications address to generate the emergency locator signal.

The method of claim 11, the emergency locator profile comprising (i) an originating communications address associated with a calling party'"'"'s communications device, (ii) the communications address of the local communications network, (iii) another communications device associated with the communications address of the local communications network, and (iv) an identifier of a building location of the other communications device associated with the communications address of the local communications network.

13. The method of claim 12, the emergency locator profile further comprising (v) a parameter for controlling position locating transmission means and (vi) a parameter for monitoring the position locating transmission means.

14. The method of claim 12, the emergency locator profile further comprising:

(v) a parameter for presenting a notification of an incoming emergency conference communication to the third party'"'"'s communications device, (vi) a communications parameter, and (vii) a third party control parameter.

15. The method of claim 11, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

generating an emergency locator signal, the emergency locator signal comprising an identifier of an emergency communications address of a local communications network, the communications network communicating the emergency locator signal to the local communications network to identify a near real-time location of the calling party'"'"'s communications device at a geographic location of the emergency communications address, wherein position locating transmission means of the calling party'"'"'s communications device provide the near real-time location.

16. The method of claim 15, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the emergency locator signal to the calling party communications device.

17. The method of claim 15, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

activating the position locating transmission means of the communications device; and

associating the transmitted position location transmission means with a room location of the calling party communications device.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the emergency locator signal from at least one of the calling party communications device and the communications network to the other communications address of the local communications network;

communicating the identifier of the building location of the other communications device to the emergency response communications address.

19. The method of claim 17, further comprising instructions for performing the following:

communicating the room location of the calling party communications device to the communications network; and

communicating the room location of the calling party communications device to the emergency response communications address.

20. The method of claim, wherein the calling party'"'"'s communications device comprises one of:

a POTS phone,

a wireless communications device,

a mobile phone,

a wireless phone,

a WAP phone,

a satellite phone

a computer,

a modem,

a pager,

a digital music device,

a digital recording device,

a personal digital assistant,

an interactive television,

a digital signal processor, and

a Global Positioning System device.
