1. A method of providing merchandising data relating to items for sale at a plurality of independent sales locations, the method comprising the steps of:
- a. receiving video surveillance data from the locations;
b. identifying at least some of the items in the video surveillance data received from a subset of the locations;
c. based on the identified items, characterizing consumer preference behavior with respect thereto; and
d. consolidating data representing the characterized behavior across at lease some of the locations and with respect to a plurality of designated items.
