Abstract

A system is described for providing for a revenue generator to bid exclusively on mobile search traffic. The system may include a processor, a memory and an interface. The memory may store a plurality of bids, a keyword, a mobile search request and a mobile advertisement associated with a revenue generator. The interface may communicate with a user and a plurality of revenue generators. The processor may receive bids on the keyword from the revenue generators. The bids may apply to the keyword when the keyword is searched for through the mobile carrier. The processor may receive the mobile search request from the user. The processor may determine if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier. The processor may serve the user the advertisement if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier, otherwise the mobile advertisement is not served for the keyword.

Claims

1. A method for providing for a revenue generator to bid exclusively on mobile search traffic, comprising:

receiving a plurality of bids on a keyword from a plurality of revenue generators, wherein the plurality of bids only apply to the keyword searched for through a mobile carrier;

receiving a mobile search request for the keyword from a user on a mobile device;

determining if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier; and

serving the user a mobile advertisement associated with at least one of the plurality of revenue generators if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier, otherwise not serving the mobile advertisement for the keyword.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving the plurality of bids on the keyword from a plurality of revenue generators further comprises receiving a plurality of mobile advertisements from the plurality of revenue generators wherein the plurality of mobile advertisements are formatted for display on the mobile device.

The method of claim 2 wherein serving the user a mobile advertisement associated with a revenue generator in the plurality of revenue generators if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier further comprises serving the user a mobile advertisement in the plurality of mobile advertisements if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile advertisement is formatted for display on the mobile device.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the mobile device comprises a mobile phone.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the formatting of the mobile advertisement is based a mobile technology supported by the mobile device and the mobile carrier.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein receiving a mobile search request for the keyword from a user on a mobile device further comprises receiving the mobile search request via a short messaging services message.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein determining if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier further comprises determining if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier based on an originating internet protocol address of the mobile search request.

9. A method for providing for a revenue generator to place separate bids on a mobile search for a keyword, and a web search for a keyword, comprising:

providing a revenue generator with an interface to place a mobile bid on a keyword and a web bid on the keyword, wherein the mobile bid applies only to a mobile search for the keyword and the web bid applies only to a web search for the keyword;

receiving, from the revenue generator, the mobile bid on the keyword and an associated mobile advertisement and the web bid on the keyword and an associated web advertisement;

receiving a search request from a user;

determining whether the search request comprises a mobile search request; and

retrieving the mobile advertisement and serving the mobile advertisement to the user if the search request comprises the mobile search request, otherwise retrieving the web advertisement and serving the web advertisement to the user.

10. The method of claim 9 wherein the formatting of the mobile advertisement comprises at least one of WML, XHTML, iMode HTML and cHTML.

11. The method of claim 9 further comprising determining whether the search request comprises a web search request and serving the web advertisement to the user if the search request comprises the web search request.

12. The method of claim 9 wherein the formatting of the mobile advertisement is based a mobile technology supported by the mobile device and a mobile carrier in communication with the mobile device.

13. The method of claim 9 wherein retrieving the mobile advertisement and serving the mobile advertisement to the user if the search request comprises the mobile search request further comprises serving the mobile advertisement to the user via a short messaging services message.

14. The method of claim 9 wherein the mobile advertisement is formatted differently than the web advertisement.

15. A system for providing for a revenue generator to bid exclusively on mobile search traffic, comprising:

a memory to store a plurality of bids, a keyword, a mobile search request and a mobile advertisement associated with a revenue generator;

an interface operatively connected to the memory to communicate with a user, through a mobile device in communication with a mobile carrier, and a plurality of revenue generators; and

a processor operatively connected to the memory and the interface, the processing for running instructions, wherein the processor receives, via the interface, the plurality of bids on the keyword from the plurality of revenue generators, further wherein the plurality of bids only apply to the keyword when the keyword is searched for through a mobile carrier, receives from the user, via the interface, the mobile search request, determines if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier, and serves the user, via the interface, the mobile advertisement associated with the revenue generator if the mobile search request originated from the mobile carrier, otherwise the mobile advertisement is not served for the keyword.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the mobile advertisement is formatted for display on the mobile device

17. The system of claim 15 wherein the mobile device comprises a mobile phone.

18. The system of claim 15 wherein the formatting of the mobile advertisement is based a mobile technology supported by the mobile device and the mobile carrier.

19. The system of claim 15 wherein the processor receives the search request via a short messaging services message.

20. The system of claim 19 wherein the processor appends the mobile advertisement to a short messaging services message and sends the short messaging services message to the user via the interface.
