Abstract

A simulation system for simulating a function of a biological organ using a biological model in which the function of the biological organ are represented by a mathematical model with a computer is provided. The present system receives input of time-series actual measurement data representing the biological response of a subject, estimates the biological response of the subject at a time point at which the measurement is not performed by using the input time-series actual measurement data, and generates time-series reference data representing the biological response of the subject. The present system further generates a virtual biological organ virtually constructed in a computer system using the times-series reference data. The virtual biological organ corresponds to the function of a biological organ of the subject.

Claims

1. A simulation system for simulating a function of a biological organ, the simulation system comprising:

input means for receiving input of time-series actual measurement data representing biological response of a subject;

reference data generating means for estimating the biological response of the subject at a time point at which the measurement is not made by using the input time-series actual measurement data, and generating time-series reference data representing the biological response of the subject; and

virtual biological organ generating means for generating a virtual biological organ virtually constructed in a computer system using the times-series reference data, the virtual biological organ corresponding to a function of a biological organ of the subject.

2. The simulation system according to claim 1, wherein

the time-series actual measurement data is obtained by measuring the biological response of the subject at time intervals,

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate the biological response of the subject at the time point which is between the time interval of the time-series actual measurement data, and generate the time-series reference data.

3. The simulation system according to claim 1, wherein

the time-series actual measurement data is obtained by measuring the biological response of the subject in a first time period,

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate the biological response of the subject at the time point other than the first time period by using the time-series actual measurement data, and generate the time-series reference data with respect to a second time period longer than the first time period.

4. The simulation system according to claim 3, wherein

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate data at the end of the second time period as being identical with the actual measurement data at the start of the first time period, and generate the time-series reference data by interpolation based on the time-series actual measurement data and estimated data at the end of the second time period.

5. The simulation system according to claim 4, wherein

the reference data generating means is configured to obtain a curve that substantially matches the time-series actual measurement data and the estimated data at the end of the second time period.

6. The simulation system according to claim 1, wherein

the virtual biological organs comprises a block representing the function of the biological organ associated with metabolism of glucose and/or insulin.

7. The simulation system according to claim 1, further comprising:

a memory for storing a mathematical model that comprises a plurality of parameters and represents a function of a biological organ, wherein

the virtual biological organ generating means is configured to generate a plurality of parameter values of the mathematical model by using the time-series reference data, the mathematical model to which the parameter values are applied representing the function of the biological organ of the subject.

8. The simulation system according to claim 7, wherein

the virtual biological organs generating means comprises:

acquiring means for acquiring a plurality of sets of parameter values;

comparing means for comparing each virtual biological response generated when the plurality of sets of parameter values acquired by the acquiring means is applied to the mathematical model, with the time-series reference data generated by the reference data generating means; and

selecting means for selecting one of the plurality of sets of parameter values acquired by the acquiring means based on the comparison result of the comparing means.

9. The simulation system according to claim 8, wherein

the selecting means is configured to select the set of parameter values corresponding to the virtual biological response having the highest matching rate with respect to the time-series reference data.

10. The simulation system according to claim 8, further comprising:

template storing means for storing a plurality of sets of parameter values and a plurality of template data representing the virtual biological responses, wherein each of the virtual biological responses represented by each of the template data corresponds to each of the sets of parameter values,

wherein, the acquiring means is configured to read out the set of parameter values and the template data from the template storing means.

11. The simulation system according to claim 8, wherein

the acquiring means comprises,

initial group generating means for generating a plurality of initial groups of the parameter value;

and

genetic algorithm executing means for executing genetic algorithm on the plurality of initial groups of the parameter value generated by the initial group generating means, and generating a plurality of sets of parameter values.

12. A simulation system for simulating a function of a biological organ, comprising:

storing means for storing a mathematical model that comprises a plurality of parameters and represents a function of a biological organ associated with metabolism of glucose and/or insulin;

reference data generating means for estimating a biological response of a subject at a time point at which measurement of the biological response of the subject is not performed, by using actual measurement data obtained by temporally measuring biological response of the subject, and generating reference data representing the biological response of the subject; and

parameter value generating means for generating a plurality of parameter values of the mathematical model by using the reference data, the mathematical model to which the parameter values are applied is capable of outputting the biological response that substantially matches the reference data generated by the reference data generating means.

13. The simulation system according to claim 12, wherein

the actual measurement data is obtained by measuring the biological response of the subject at time intervals,

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate the biological response of the subject at the time point which is between the time interval of the actual measurement data, and generate the reference data.

14. The simulation system according to claim 12, wherein

the actual measurement data is obtained by measuring the biological response of the subject in a first time period,

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate the biological response of the subject at the time point other than the first time period by using the actual measurement data, and generate the reference data with respect to a second time period longer than the first time period.

15. The simulation system according to claim 14, wherein

the reference data generating means is configured to estimate data at the end of the second time period as being identical with the actual measurement data at the start of the first time period, and generate the reference data by interpolation based on the actual measurement data and estimated data at the end of the second time period.

16. The simulation system according to claim 14, wherein

the reference data generating means is configured to obtain a curve that substantially matches the actual measurement data and the estimated data at the end of the second time period.

17. The simulation system according to claim 12, further comprising:

the virtual biological organs generating means comprises;

acquiring means for acquiring a plurality of sets of parameter values;

comparing means for comparing each virtual biological response generated when the plurality of sets of parameter values acquired by the acquiring means is applied to the mathematical model, with the reference data generated by the reference data generating means; and

selecting means for selecting one of the plurality of sets of parameter values acquired by the acquiring means based on the comparison result of the comparing means.

18. The simulation system according to claim 17, further comprising:

template storing means for storing a plurality of sets of parameter values and a plurality of template data representing the virtual biological responses, wherein each of the virtual biological responses represented by each of the template data corresponds to each of the sets of parameter values,

wherein, the acquiring means is configured to read out the set of parameter values and the template data from the template storing means.

19. The simulation system according to claim 17, wherein

the acquiring means comprises,

initial group generating means for generating a plurality of initial groups of the parameter value;

and

genetic algorithm executing means for executing genetic algorithm on the plurality of initial groups of the parameter value generated by the initial group generating means, and generating a plurality of sets of parameter values.

20. A simulation system for simulating a function of a biological organ, comprising:

storing means for storing a mathematical model that comprises a plurality of parameters and represents a function of a biological organ associated with metabolism of glucose and/or insulin;

data estimating means for estimating data of a biological response of a subject at a time point at which measurement of the biological response of the subject is not performed, by using actual measurement data obtained by temporally measuring biological response of the subject; and

parameter value generating means for generating a plurality of parameter values of the mathematical model by using the actual measurement data and the estimated data, the mathematical model to which the parameter values are applied represents the function of the biological organ of the subject.
