A device configured for implantation into a living organism, said device comprising a housing with at least one opening, said housing configured to engage vascular tissue through said at least one opening such that an engagement results in the formation of a capillary bed within said housing, said housing having therein a plurality of semi-permeable hollow fibers connected to a conduit, said plurality of semi-permeable hollow fibers configured to remove impurities from blood and pass said removed impurities into said conduit.
