Abstract

A variable velocity calibration and balancing system having a basis in a function block engine. It pertains to variable air volume systems and particularly to balancing systems as they relate to heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Balancing may be addressed using functional blocks to represent actual control and connections in an HVAC application for a variable air volume application.

Claims

1. An air flow balancing system comprising:

at least one pressure-based air flow sensor;

a conditioner connected to the air flow sensor;

an averaging and filter module connected to the conditioner;

a linearizer connected to the averaging and filter module; and

a variable storage module connected to the linearizer.

2. The system of claim 1, wherein an output of the conditioner is a voltage indicative of a magnitude of pressure.

3. The system of claim 2, further comprising:

an analog-to-digital converter connected between the conditioner and the averaging and filter module; and

wherein the analog-to-digital converter is for converting voltage into counts indicative of the magnitude of pressure.

4. The system of claim 3, wherein the averaging and filter module is for providing filtered average counts.

5. The system of claim 3, wherein the linearizer is for providing linearized counts.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein a signal from the linearizer is to be converted and/or corrected to a flow signal in accordance with a multipoint curve using linear interpolation between points of the curve.

7. The system of claim 1, further comprising an air flow balancing block implementation module connected to the variable storage module.

8. The system of claim 7, wherein a balancing block of the balancing block implementation module is of a function block engine.

9. The system of claim 7, further comprising an operating system connected between the variable storage module and the balancing block implementation module.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the variable storage module is adapted to a standard protocol for connection to a communication bus.

11. A balancing function block system comprising:

a function block engine;

an operating system scheduler connected to the function block engine; and

a block execution list module connected to the function block engine.

12. The system for claim 11, wherein the function block engine is for providing a variable air volume block.

13. The system of claim 12, wherein the variable air volume block comprises:

a function block order module;

an input network converter connected to the function block order module;

an output network converter connected to the function block order module; and

a memory connected to the function block order module.

14. The system of claim 11, wherein the function block engine is for providing an air flow balancing block.

15. The system of claim 11, wherein the function block engine is for providing a VELP (flow velocity from pressure) block.

16. The system of claim 11, wherein the function block engine is for providing a VAV (variable air volume) block.

17. A method for balancing comprising:

storing a list of function blocks in a non-volatile memory; and

executing a function block according to the list of function blocks; and

wherein executing a function block comprises;

executing the function block from the non-volatile memory;

reading variables from a random-access memory; and

writing variables to the random access memory.

18. The method of claim 17, wherein the function blocks comprise:

VELP (flow velocity from pressure);

VAV (variable air volume); and

/or

air flow balancing.

19. The method of claim 18 further comprising providing each function block with a function block type, one or more parameters, and/or one or more references, and wherein at least some of the parameters and/or references include a pointer to either the random-access memory or to a constant storage space in the non-volatile memory.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein the non-volatile memory and the random-access memory are provided on a single microcontroller.
