Abstract

An apparatus including a main processing unit. The apparatus further including a precordial patch coupled to the main processing unit, the precordial patch having a plurality of sensors for detecting heart sounds and cardiac electrical signals (ECG). The apparatus further including a probe coupled to the main processing unit, the probe having a sensor for detecting oxygen saturation of blood circulating through a human. A method is further described including simultaneously measuring and analyzing heart sounds, cardiac electrical signals (ECG) and oxygen saturation of blood circulating through a human. The method further includes performing an algorithm to determine the presence of a significant congenital heart disease and displaying management recommendations based on results of the algorithm.

Claims

1. An apparatus comprising:

a main processing unit;

a precordial patch coupled to the main processing unit, the precordial patch having a plurality of sensors for detecting heart function; and

a probe coupled to the main processing unit, the probe having a sensor for detecting oxygen saturation of blood circulating through a human.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise a plurality of sensors for detecting electrical signals.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise sensors positioned according to a plurality of lead positions.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise six sensors positioned corresponding to the lead positions of V₁, V₂, V₃, V₄, V₅ and V₆.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors for detecting heart sounds.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the patch further comprising at least one indicator for an anatomical landmark.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the plurality of sensors each comprise a lead and the lead of each of the plurality of sensors is bundled.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the patch comprises dimensions for positioning with a left precordium of a subject.

9. The apparatus of claim 8, wherein the subject is a newborn.

10. An apparatus comprising:

a precordial patch comprising dimensions for positioning with a precordium of a human subject; and

a plurality of sensors for detecting heart function; and

a plurality of leads coupled at one end to respective ones of the plurality of sensors and bundled at another end.

11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise a plurality of sensors for detecting electrical signals.

12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise sensors positioned according to a plurality of lead positions.

13. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the plurality of sensors comprise six sensors positioned corresponding to the lead positions of V₁, V₂, V₃, V₄, V₅ and V₆.

14. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the plurality of sensors for detecting heart sounds.

15. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the patch further comprising at least one indicator for an anatomical landmark.

16. A method comprising:

simultaneously measuring and analyzing heart sounds, cardiac electrical signals (ECG) and oxygen saturation of blood circulating through a human;

performing an algorithm to determine the presence of a congenital heart disease; and

displaying a result of the algorithm.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising:

placing a precordial patch on the precordium of a subject, the precordial patch comprising sensors for detecting heart sounds, and electrical signals.

18. The method of claim 17, further comprising:

placing a pulse oximetry sensor on the subject.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein displaying a result of the algorithm comprises displaying an indication of whether the result is normal or abnormal.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein displaying a result comprises displaying a management recommendation.
