Abstract

A method for providing an airline a global view of asset management is described. The method includes receiving data relating to aircraft positions from at least one data source, receiving data relating to flight and maintenance schedules for the aircraft from at least one other data source, correlating the received data in accordance with one or more business rules, interpreting the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective, and presenting the interpretation of the correlated data in a single format to a user.

Claims

1. A method for providing an airline a global view of airline operations, said method comprising:

receiving data relating to aircraft positions from at least one data source;

receiving data relating to flight and maintenance schedules for the aircraft from at least one other data source;

correlating the received data in accordance with one or more business rules;

interpreting the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective; and

presenting the interpretation of the correlated data in a single format to a user.

2. A method according to claim 1 further comprising identifying buffer times between scheduled events for the aircraft.

3. A method according to claim 2 wherein identifying buffer times between scheduled events for the aircraft comprises referencing aircraft flight schedules with at least one of maintenance schedules, airport schedules, and repair station schedules.

4. A method according to claim 2 wherein identifying buffer times between scheduled events for the aircraft comprises referencing aircraft maintenance schedules with at least one of maintenance schedules, airport schedules, and repair station schedules.

5. A method according to claim 1 wherein correlating the received data in accordance with one or more business rules comprises correlating flight following information with maintenance and station schedules for one or more of the destinations for the aircraft.

A method according to claim 1 wherein correlating the received data in accordance with one or more business rules comprises combining at least one of maintenance schedule information, airport schedule information, and repair station schedule information with fault messages received from the aircraft.

7. A method according to claim 6 wherein interpreting the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective comprises determining a likelihood for a specific aircraft to be serviced at least one possible destination.

8. A method according to claim 1 wherein presenting the interpretation of the correlated data in a single format to a user comprises providing an integrated schedule of station operations, maintenance operations, and flight operations.

9. A method according to claim 8 further comprising determining buffers between scheduled events and the feasibility of meeting aircraft maintenance schedules.

10. A method according to claim 1 wherein interpreting the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective further comprises determining if resources are being under utilized, over utilized, or optimally utilized.

11. A system for providing a global view of airline operations, said system comprising:

a user interface;

at least one on-board unit configured to provide data relating to aircraft position;

at least one ground based unit configured to provide data relating to at least one of flight schedules, maintenance schedules, airport schedules, and repair station schedules for the aircraft;

an integration system networked to said at least one on-board unit and said at least one ground based unit and configured to receive the provided data;

a decision support system integrated with said integration system and said user interface, said decision support system operatively configured to correlate the received data according to one or more business rules, interpret the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective, and cause the interpretation of the correlated data to be presented in a single format at said user interface.

12. A system according to claim 11 wherein to interpret the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective, said decision support system is configured to implement buffer times between scheduled events for aircraft.

13. A system according to claim 12 wherein to implement buffer times between scheduled events for aircraft, said decision support system is configured to reference aircraft flight schedules with at least one of maintenance schedules, airport schedules, and repair station schedules.

14. A system according to claim 12 wherein to implement buffer times between scheduled events for aircraft, said decision support system is configured to reference aircraft maintenance schedules with at least one of maintenance schedules, airport schedules, and repair station schedules.

A system according to claim 11 wherein to correlate the received data in accordance with one or more business rules, said decision support system is configured to correlate flight following information with at least one of maintenance, airport, and repair station schedules for scheduled and alternate destinations for the aircraft.

A system according to claim 11 wherein to correlate the received data in accordance with one or more business rules, said decision support system is configured to combine at least one of maintenance, airport, and repair station schedule information with fault messages received from the aircraft.

17. A system according to claim 16 wherein to interpret the correlated data to assets and resources from an airline system perspective, said decision support system is configured to determine a likelihood for a specific aircraft to be serviced at least one of its possible destinations.

18. A system according to claim 11 wherein to present the interpretation of the correlated data in a single format to a user, said decision support system is configured to provide an integrated schedule of station operations, maintenance operations, and flight operations.

19. A system according to claim 18 wherein said decision support system is configured to determine buffers between scheduled events and the feasibility of meeting aircraft maintenance schedules.

20. A system according to claim 11 wherein to interpret the correlated data to determine potential impacts to assets and resources from an airline system perspective, said decision support system is configured to determine if resources are being under utilized, over utilized, or optimally utilized.
