Abstract

A system and method for performing a notification based upon location in a Secure User Plane Location (SUPL) network which is provided with a SUPL Location Platform (SLP) and a SUPL Enabled Terminal (SET) to thus perform a privacy authentication based upon a location of the SET, wherein when a client requests positioning of the SET, the SLP transmits a notification mode parameter to the SET through a session initial message, whereby it can be predefined whether the notification is performed based upon a location or a user when the SLP (i.e., server system) notifies the SET (or the SET user) of the positioning of the SET requested by the client (i.e., a client system), thus to enable the SET to determine a time point of a notification response.

Claims

1. A location based notification method in a method for calculating a location of a terminal by exchanging messages between a location server and the terminal according to a client'"'"'s request, the method comprising:

receiving a session initial message including a notification mode parameter from the location server; and

checking the received notification mode parameter to determine whether the notification is performed based upon the location of the terminal.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the notification mode parameter indicates whether the notification/verification performed by the location server is a normal notification/verification or a notification/verification based location.

3. The method of claim 2, wherein the normal notification/verification indicates a notification/verification based upon a user.

4. The method of claim 1, wherein the terminal does not transmit a session end message until receiving a session notification message when the notification mode parameter is the notification/verification based upon the location.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving the session notification message from the location server when the notification is performed based upon the location of the terminal; and

transmitting a user'"'"'s notification response with respect to the received session notification message to the location server.

6. The method of claim 1, wherein the location server is a SUPL Location Platform (H-SLP) in case of a proxy mode.

7. The method of claim 1, wherein the location server is a SUPL Location Center (H-SLC) in case where the terminal is not roaming in a non-proxy mode.

8. The method of claim 1, wherein in case where the terminal is roaming in a non-proxy mode, the location server is H-SLP when a V-SPC performs positioning with the terminal, and is the H-SLC when a H-SPC performs the positioning with the terminal.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the checking comprises:

checking whether the notification/verification is performed based upon the location of the terminal using a set value of the notification mode parameter;

performing a positioning process with the location server to calculate the location of the terminal when the notification/verification is performed based upon the location of the terminal; and

transmitting the user'"'"'s notification response to the location server when a message including a notification element is transmitted from the location server after completely calculating the location of the terminal.

10. The method of claim 9, wherein a session end message is transmitted to the location server when the notification/verification is not based upon the location of the terminal.

11. A location based notification method in a method for calculating a location of a terminal by exchanging messages between a location server and the terminal according to a client'"'"'s request, the method comprising:

receiving a notification mode parameter from the location server through a first message;

checking whether the notification is performed based upon the location of the terminal according to a set value of the notification mode parameter;

starting a positioning session with the location server when the notification is performed based upon the location of the terminal;

calculating the location of the terminal by performing the positioning process with the location server;

receiving a second message including a notification element from the location server after completely calculating the location of the terminal; and

transmitting a third message including a user'"'"'s notification response to the location server after receiving the second message.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the notification mode parameter indicates whether the notification/verification performed by the location server is a normal notification/verification or a notification/verification based location.

13. The method of claim 11, wherein the normal notification/verification denotes a notification/verification based upon a user.

14. The method of claim 11, wherein the terminal transmits a session end message to the location server when the notification/verification is not performed based upon the location of the terminal.

15. The method of claim 11, wherein the terminal does not transmit a session end message until receiving a session notification message when the notification mode parameter is the notification/verification based upon the location.

16. The method of claim 11, wherein the first message is a session initial message for initiating the SUPL session, the second message is a session notification message for notifying the positioning request of the SUPL agent, and the third message is a session notification response message.

17. A mobile communications terminal comprising;

a radio frequency unit for receiving a session initial message including a notification mode parameter from a location server; and

a signal processing unit for checking the received notification mode parameter to determine whether the notification is performed based upon a location of a terminal.

18. The terminal of claim 17, wherein the notification mode parameter indicates whether the notification/verification performed by the location server is a normal notification/verification or a notification/verification based location.

19. The terminal of claim 17, wherein the normal notification/verification indicates a notification/verification based upon a user.

20. The terminal of claim 17, wherein the signal processing unit transmits a session end message to the location server when the notification/verification is not performed based upon the location of the terminal.

21. The terminal of claim 17, wherein the signal processing unit does not transmit the session end message until receiving the session notification message when the notification mode parameter is the notification/verification based upon location.
