Abstract

An embodiment of the invention provides a prosthesis delivery system comprising a delivery catheter having an expandable member and a prosthesis carried over the expandable member. The prosthesis includes a radially expandable scaffold section and at least two anchors extending axially from an end thereof; and means for capturing at least the anchors to prevent the anchors from divaricating from the expandable member as the catheter is advanced through a patient'"'"'s vasculature.

Claims

1. A prosthesis delivery system for delivering a prosthesis to an Os opening from a main body lumen to a branch body lumen, the main body lumen having a main body lumen wall with a portion of the main body lumen wall opposing the Os, the prosthesis delivery system comprising:

a delivery catheter having an expandable member;

a prosthesis carried over the expandable member, said prosthesis having a radially expandable scaffold section and at least two anchors extending axially from an end thereof, said anchors having sufficient length to extend into and to expandably circumscribe the main body lumen wall and reach the portion of the main body lumen wall opposing the Os; and

a capturing structure configured to prevent the anchors from divaricating from the expandable member as the catheter is advanced through a patient'"'"'s vasculature.

2. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the capturing structure comprises a tether which circumscribes the proximal portion of the prosthesis.

3. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 2, wherein the tether is configured to be detached from the anchors prior to expansion of the expandable member.

4. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 3, wherein the tether is configured to break upon expansion of the expandable member.

5. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the prosthesis comprises at least three circumferential anchors extending axially from the end of the scaffold.

6. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the anchors have an axial length which is at least 1.5 times the width of the scaffold prior to radial expansion.

7. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the anchors have an axial length of at least 2 mm.

8. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the scaffold comprises a plurality of axially adjacent cells.

9. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the anchors are all congruent.

10. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the anchors will radially expand when the scaffold is radially expanded.

11. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the anchors are adapted to both bend and rotate relative to a control axis of the prosthesis.

12. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, further comprising a radiopaque marker at or near a transition location between the scaffold and the anchors.

13. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 1, wherein the system is configured to be mounted on a balloon having a radiopaque marker aligned with a transition location between the scaffold and the anchors.

14. A prosthesis delivery system comprising:

a delivery catheter having a balloon;

a prosthesis capable of being carried through the vasculature over the balloon and of being deployed at an Os, the prosthesis comprising;

a radially expandable scaffold section;

at least two anchors extending axially from an end of the radially expandable scaffold section; and

a member extending around and coupled with the anchors, the member being spaced from the radially expandable scaffold and having a first, low profile configuration for maintaining the anchors adjacent to the delivery catheter during advancement of the prosthesis through the patient'"'"'s vasculature, the member also having a second configuration permitting the anchors to separate from the delivery catheter and to conform to a wall of the vasculature opposite the Os.

15. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 14, wherein the member is expandable upon expansion of the balloon to permit the anchors to be spaced farther apart from each other than when carried over the balloon.

16. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 14, wherein the member is detachable from the anchors prior to expansion of the balloon.

17. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 14, wherein the member comprises a tether which circumscribes a proximal portion of the prosthesis.

18. A prosthesis delivery system as in claim 14, wherein the member is configured to break upon expansion of the prosthesis.
