Abstract

An abdominal aortic aneurysm repair device having an access port may be utilized to percutaneously access the aneurismal sac without disturbing the repair. The access port has a self-sealing member for maintaining the port in the normally closed position. The insertion of a percutaneous device into the port opens the port.

Claims

1. An aneurysm repair system comprising:

at least one bypass graft configured to extend through an aneurismal sac and create a fluid flow pathway therethrough; and

at least one port connected to and in fluid communication with the at least one bypass graft, the at least one port being operable to assume an open position and a closed position.

2. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 1, wherein the at least one bypass graft comprises at least one stent.

3. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 2, wherein the at least one bypass graft comprises graft material covering at least a portion of the at least one stent.

4. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 1, wherein the at least one port comprises a substantially tubular member having first and second ends, the first end being connected to and in fluid communication with the at least one bypass graft and the second end being free.

5. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 4, wherein the substantially tubular member comprises a graft.

The aneurysm repair system according to claim 5, wherein the substantially tubular member further comprises a lattice structure positioned around at least a portion of the graft, the lattice structure including one section for maintaining the second end of substantially tubular member in the closed position absent the application of expanding forces, thereby preventing fluid flow therethrough.

7. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 6, wherein the lattice structure comprises a superelastic material.

8. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 7, wherein the superelastic material comprises a nick-titanium alloy.

9. The aneurysm repair system according to claim 6, wherein the lattice structure comprises a shape memory material.

10. The aneurysm repair device according to claim 9, wherein the shape memory material comprises a nickel-titanium alloy.
