Abstract
A system and associated process for expedited payment between a first computer (e.g. a customer computer or a bank computer) and a biller computer, e.g. within the US, is implemented over an online banking or payment network. A payment request for an expedited, e.g. same day, payment is received at the central system from the first computer, wherein the request includes identification of an intended payee, e.g. biller, and identification of a funding account associated with the customer. The system verifies if the funding account has sufficient funds available for the requested transaction, which preferably includes an associated fee. The system then sends a message to a vendor service, e.g. external, if the funding account has sufficient funds available for the requested transaction. The vendor service sends payment information to the biller computer, and sends a payment message back to the payment system, which debits the funding account for the transaction, if successful. The banking/payment system preferably provides other payment methods, wherein a customer can selectably choose between payment methods.
