Abstract

An electrical connector (100) mounted on a printed circuit board includes an insulative housing (10) defining a number of terminal slots (141, 151), a number of terminal modules (20), an outer shield (40) attached to the insulative housing and a number of inner shielding plates (30) each disposed between two adjacent terminal modules. The outer shield has a first wall (41) and a second wall (42) extending downwardly from the first wall. The inner shielding plate has a first section (31) and a second section (34) engaging with the first wall and the second wall, respectively. At least one of the first section and the second section includes a spring portion (312) flexibly engaging with corresponding wall of the outer shield.

Claims

1. An electrical connector mounted on a printed circuit board, comprising:

an insulative housing defining a plurality of terminal slots;

a plurality of terminal modules each having a plurality of terminals fixed therein, each terminal having a first contacting pin received in the terminal slot;

an outer shield attached to the insulative housing and comprising a first wall and a second wall extending downwardly from the first wall; and

a plurality of inner shielding plates each having a first section and a second section respectively engaging with the first wall and the second wall, at least one of the first section and the second section comprising a spring portion flexibly engaging with corresponding wall of the outer shield.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first section is disposed on a top of the inner shielding plate, and wherein said spring portion of the inner shielding plate is formed on the first section and comprises a spring latch and a protrusion extending from a free end of the spring latch for resisting against the first wall of the outer shield.

3. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said second section is disposed on a side portion of the inner shielding plate, wherein said spring portion is disposed on the second section and comprises a spring latch for resisting against the second wall of the outer shield.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, wherein said outer shield has a plurality of grooves defined on the second wall, and wherein the second section of the inner shielding plate comprises a protruding portion projecting laterally from a side edge of the inner shielding plate for engaging with the groove of the outer shield.

5. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 4, wherein said second section of the inner shielding plate further comprises a stepped portion disposed at an end edge of the protruding portion for engaging with a lower end of the groove of the second wall.

6. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 2, wherein said outer shield has a bending portion extending inwardly downwardly from an end of the second wall, said bending portion electrically connecting the inner shielding plates.

The electrical connector as claimed in claim 6, wherein said bending portion comprises a body section and a medial section connecting the body section to the end of the second wall to form a receiving space between an outer surface of the body section and a lower surface of the medial section for coupling with a side edge of the inner shielding plate.

8. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 7, wherein said outer shield has a plurality of grooves defined on the bending portion, and wherein the side edge of the second section of the inner shielding plate extend through the grooves and entirely received in the receiving space.

9. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 8, wherein said second section of the inner shielding plate further comprises a stepped portion disposed at an end edge of inner shielding plate for engaging with a lower end of the groove of the bending portion.

10. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, further comprising a connection plate mounted to a bottom of the insulative housing.

11. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said first wall of the outer shield defines a plurality of recesses, and wherein said insulative housing is provided with a plurality of protruding blocks on a top portion thereof for coupling with the recesses.

12. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said terminal modules and the inner shielding plates are located one next to the other.

13. The electrical connector as claimed in claim 1, wherein said terminal has a second contacting pin extending downwardly from the insulative housing for electrically connecting with the printed circuit board.

14. An electrical connector comprising:

an insulative housing;

a plurality of juxtaposed terminal modules each having a plurality of terminals fixed therein;

an outer shield attached to the insulative housing and comprising a first wall and a second wall extending downwardly from the first wall; and

a plurality of inner shielding plates each separating every adjacent two terminal modules and having a first section and a second section respectively engaging with the first wall and the second wall, at least one of the first section and the second section comprising a spring portion flexibly engaging with an inner face of a corresponding wall of the outer shield without exposure to an exterior.
