Abstract

A control system is employed in a vehicle to assist a user to operate the vehicle effectively and safely. In accordance with the invention, the system provides driving assistance to the user by taking into account the user'"'"'s physical condition, the vehicle condition and the surrounding conditions. The surrounding conditions include, e.g., road, weather and traffic conditions, external to the vehicle. The vehicle condition concerns the conditions of the brakes, steering, tires, radiator, etc. of the vehicle. Signs of fatigue, stress and illness of the user are monitored by the control system to assess the user'"'"'s physical condition.

Claims

23. A method for use in a system in a vehicle, comprising:

sensing an ambient temperature of a compartment of the vehicle;

determining a body temperature of a user in the compartment; and

controlling an operation of a device in the vehicle as a function of at least the ambient temperature and the body temperature.

24. The method of claim 23 wherein the body temperature is determined when the ambient temperature is in a steady state.

25. The method of claim 23 wherein the body temperature is determined from time to time, and an action is triggered when the body temperature changes more than a predetermined value.

26. The method of claim 25 wherein the action includes invoking a test for testing the user, and the test requires the user to identify different colors on display.

27. The method of claim 25 wherein the action includes invoking a test for testing the user, and the test requires the user to utter an answer to at least one question.

28. The method of claim 27 wherein the answer comprises a name of the user.

29. The method of claim 28 wherein an utterance of the answer is analyzed with respect to a voice pattern of the user.

30. The method of claim 23 wherein the operation of the device is controlled to stop the vehicle.

31. The method of claim 23 wherein the device includes a braking device.

32. The method of claim 23 wherein the device includes a steering device.

33. A system for use in a vehicle, comprising:

a thermo-sensing element for determining a body temperature of a user in a compartment of the vehicle, an ambient temperature of the compartment being determined; and

a processor configured to control an operation of a device in the vehicle as a function of at least the ambient temperature and the body temperature.

34. The system of claim 33 wherein the body temperature is determined when the ambient temperature is in a steady state.

35. The system of claim 33 wherein the body temperature is determined from time to time, and an action is triggered when the body temperature changes more than a predetermined value.

36. The system of claim 35 wherein the action includes invoking a test for testing the user, and the test requires the user to identify different colors on display.

37. The system of claim 35 wherein the action includes invoking a test for testing the user, and the test requires the user to utter an answer to at least one question.

38. The system of claim 37 wherein the answer comprises a name of the user.

39. The system of claim 38 wherein an utterance of the answer is analyzed with respect to a voice pattern of the user.

40. The system of claim 33 wherein the operation of the device is controlled to stop the vehicle.

41. The system of claim 33 wherein the device includes a braking device.

42. The system of claim 33 wherein the device includes a steering device.

43. The system of claim 33 wherein the thermo-sensing element is incorporated in a seat in the vehicle.

44. The system of claim 33 wherein the thermo-sensing element is placed on a steering wheel of the vehicle.
