Abstract

Modulation-demodulation format selectable (MFS) processor, cross-correlator and transmit filter for processing, cross-correlating and filtering in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signal and providing a first bit rate and a second bit rate baseband signal to a modulator and a transmitter for modulation and transmission of the processed filtered baseband signal. Transmit amplifier operated in a first radio frequency (RF) band for amplification of the first bit rate modulated signal and a second RF amplifier operated in a second RF band for amplification of the second bit rate modulated signal. Switch for selecting the first or the second bit rate or first or second modulation format signal and providing selected signal to a transmitter. Receiver for receiving transmitted signal. Demodulator and demodulator filter mismatched to transmit baseband filter. Receive processor for receiving and processing quadrature demodulator demodulated baseband filtered signal and for providing first and second format cross-correlated in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signal. Time division multiplex (TDM) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) processor and transmit baseband filter for processing, filtering and providing TDM and OFDM processed and filtered signal to a modulator, transmitter and receiver. Receiver and demodulator for demodulating and baseband filtering received modulated TDM signal. Demodulator of TDM signal has a demodulator baseband filter which is mismatched to the transmit baseband filter and provides demodulated baseband mismatched filtered cross-correlated in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

Claims

1. A system comprising:

a processor, cross-correlator and transmit baseband filter for processing, cross-correlating filtering and providing a first bit rate baseband signal and a second bit rate baseband signal to a modulator and a transmitter for modulation and transmission of the processed filtered baseband signal, wherein first and second bit rates are distinct bit rates;

a transmitter comprising a first radio frequency (RF) amplifier operated in a first RF band for amplification of the first bit rate modulated signal and a second RF amplifier operated in a second RF band for amplification of the second bit rate modulated signal, wherein first RF band is distinct from second RF hand;

a switch for selecting the first or the second bit rate baseband signal and for providing the selected signal to a modulator for modulation and amplification and for providing the selected amplified signal to a transmission medium;

a receiver for receiving the transmitted signal received from the transmission medium and for providing received signal to a demodulator;

a demodulator and receive baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received signal, wherein the demodulator comprises a quadrature demodulator and a non-coherent demodulator and the receive baseband filter is mis-matched to the transmit baseband filter; and

a receive processor for receiving and processing quadrature demodulator demodulated baseband filtered signal and for providing a first bit rate demodulated baseband filtered cross-correlated signal.

The system of claim 1, wherein the processor, cross-correlator and transmit baseband filter comprises a first cross-correlator for providing cross-correlated time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) signal and a second cross-correlator for providing cross-correlated spread spectrum in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

The system of claim 1, wherein the processor, cross-correlator and transmit baseband filter comprises a first cross-correlator for providing cross-correlated time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) and a second cross-correlator for providing cross-correlated Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

6. The system of claim 1, wherein the cross-correlator and transmit baseband filter comprise Time Constrained Signal (TCS) wavelets and Long Response (LR) filtered in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signals.

7. The system of claim 1, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a Non-Redundant Error Detection (NRED) circuit for error detection of the received signal.

8. The system of claim 1, wherein the demodulator and receive baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received signal is comprised of bit rate switchable filters.

9. The system of claim 1, wherein the first or the second bit rate signal is an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) signal.

10. The system of claim 1, wherein the first bit rate baseband signal is a Gaussian shaped and or Gaussian filtered signal.

11. The system of claim 1, wherein the first radio frequency (RF) amplifier operated in a first RF band for amplification of the first bit rate modulated signal is an amplifier operated in a linear or a linearized mode and the second RF amplifier operated in a seconds RF band for amplification of the second hit rate modulated signal is operated in a nonlinear or saturated mode.

12. The system of claim 1, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a non-linear Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit operated in a non-linear mode.

2. A system comprising:

a processor and transmit baseband filter for processing, filtering and providing a first modulation format signal and a second modulation format signal to a modulator and a transmitter for modulation and transmission of the processed filtered baseband signal, wherein first and second modulation formats are distinct modulation formats;

a transmitter comprising a first radio frequency (RF) amplifier operated in a first RE band in a linear or a linearized mode for amplification of the first modulation format modulated signal and a second RF amplifier operated in a second RF band in a nonlinear or saturated mode for amplification of the second modulation format modulated signal, wherein first RF hand is distinct from second RE band;

a switch for selecting the first or the second modulation format signal and for providing the selected signal to said modulator for modulation and amplification and for providing the selected amplified signal to a transmission medium;

a receiver for receiving the transmitted signal received from the transmission medium and for providing received signal to a demodulator;

a demodulator and receive baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received signal, wherein the receive baseband filter is mis-matched to the transmit baseband filter; and

a receive processor for receiving and processing demodulated baseband filtered signal and for providing a first and second -format cross-correlated in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signal.

13. The system of claim 2, wherein the processor and transmit baseband filter comprises a cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

The system of claim 2, wherein the processor and transmit, baseband filter for processing, filtering and providing a first modulation format signal and a second modulation format signal to a modulator and a transmitter for modulation comprises a first cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) in-phase and quadrature-phase signal and a second :

cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

The system of claim 2, wherein the processor and transmit baseband filter for processing, filtering and providing a first modulation format signal and a second modulation format signal to a modulator comprise two cross-correlators for providing cross-correlated time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) and cross-correlated spread spectrum signals.

16. The system of claim 2, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a linear Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit operated in a linear mode for reception of the first modulation format modulated signal and a non-linear AGC circuit operated in a non-linear mode for reception of the second modulation format modulated signal.

17. The system of claim 2, wherein the time division multiplex (TDM) processor and transmit baseband filter comprises a cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

3. A system comprising:

a time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) processor and transmit baseband filter for processing, filtering and providing TDM or TDMA and OFDM processed and filtered signal to a modulator and a transmitter for modulation and transmission of the processed filtered baseband signal;

a transmitter comprising a first radio frequency (RF) amplifier operated in a first RE band for amplification of TDM or TDMA modulated signal and a second RF amplifier operated in a second RF hand for amplification of the OFDM modulated signal, wherein first RF band is distinct from second RF band;

a receiver for receiving the transmitted signal received from the transmitter and for providing received signal to a first and a second demodulator;

a first demodulator and demodulator baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received modulated TDM or TDMA signal, wherein the first demodulator comprises a demodulator baseband filter which is mis-matched to the transmit baseband filter and provides demodulated baseband filtered cross-correlated in-phase and quadrature-phase signal; and

a second demodulator and demodulator baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received modulated OFDM signal and for providing demodulated baseband filtered in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

The system of claim 3, wherein the time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) processor and transmit baseband filter comprise a first cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) in-phase and quadrature-phase signal and a second cross-correlator and filter for providing cross-correlated filtered Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

19. The system of claim 3, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a Non-Redundant Error Detection (NRED) circuit for error detection of the received signal.

20. The system of claim 3, wherein the second demodulator and demodulator baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received modulated OFDM signal comprises a processor for providing processed cross-correlated demodulated baseband filtered OFDM in-phase and quadrature-phase signal.

The system of claim 3, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a linear Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit operated in a linear mode for reception of the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) modulated signal and a non-linear AGC circuit operated in a non-linear mode for reception of the time division multiplex (TDM) or time division multiple access (TDMA) modulated signal.

22. The system of claim 3, wherein the receiver for receiving the transmitted signal comprises a Non-Redundant Error Detection (NRED) circuit for error detection of the received signal.

23. The system of claim 3, wherein the second demodulator and demodulator baseband filter for demodulation and filtering of the received modulated OFDM signal and for providing demodulated baseband filtered in-phase and quadrature-phase signal comprises a processor for processing and providing cross-correlated OFDM in-phase and quadrature-phase baseband signals.
