SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MULTIFRAME ALIGNMENT IN A MULTIPOINT-TO-POINT ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLEXING SYSTEM
First Claim
1. A method for communicating a multiframe, the method comprising:
- receiving at a host a plurality of upstream symbols transmitted from a plurality of remote units, the upstream symbols transmitted on a plurality of orthogonal carriers modulated using an inverse Fourier transform; and
adjusting a transmission timing of at least two of the plurality of remote units so that symbols transmitted from the at least two of the plurality of remote units and associated with frames of a predetermined multiframe structure are received at the host in a sequence based on the predetermined multiframe structure.

Abstract
Systems and methods for multiframe alignment in a multipoint-to-point orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system are provided. In one embodiment, a method for communicating a multiframe comprises: receiving at a host a plurality of upstream symbols transmitted from a plurality of remote units, the upstream symbols transmitted on a plurality of orthogonal carriers modulated using an inverse Fourier transform; and adjusting a transmission timing of at least two of the plurality of remote units so that symbols transmitted from the at least two of the plurality of remote units and associated with frames of a predetermined multiframe structure are received at the host in a sequence based on the predetermined multiframe structure.

6. A system comprising:
-
a plurality of remote units;
a host unit communicatively coupled to the plurality of remote units in a multipoint-to-point configuration, the host unit receiving an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing waveform comprising a plurality of orthogonal carriers modulated using an inverse Fourier transform;
wherein the host unit transmits one or more timing adjustments to at least two of the plurality of remote units, the timing adjustments instructing the at least two of the plurality of remote units to adjust a transmission timing so that symbols transmitted by the at least two of the plurality of remote units and associated with frames of a predetermined multiframe structure are received at the host unit in a sequence consistent with the predetermined multiframe structure. - View Dependent Claims (7, 8)

9. A method for communicating between a remote unit and a host unit in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) multi-point to point system, the method comprising:
-
transmitting a signal from a remote unit to a host unit;
receiving a message from the host unit, the message indicating an adjustment for transmissions from the remote unit such that a signal transmitted from the remote unit arrives at the host unit in a preselected frame position within a predetermine multiframe structure, the signal from the remote unit combining with a signal from at least one other remote unit on a different tone to form a coherent OFDM waveform. - View Dependent Claims (10, 11, 12, 13)
