Abstract

Integrated systems and associated method for manipulating tissues and anatomical or other sturctures in medical applications for the purpose of treating diseases or disorders or other purposes. In one aspect, the system includes a device configured to deploy and implant anchoring devices for such purposes.

52. An anchor assembly for use in tissue retention, comprising:

a first part, the first part defining a generally tubular shape and including an internal bore; and

a second part, the second part defining a generally solid cylinder including a pair of spaced arms extending therefrom;

wherein the spaced arms are sized and shaped to be inserted within the bore of the first portion.

53. The anchor assembly of claim 52, wherein the second portion is sized to lockingly engage with the first part.

54. The anchor assembly of claim 52, further comprising a connector.

55. The anchor assembly of claim 54, wherein the connector is sized and shaped to be received between the spaced arms.

56. The anchor assembly of claim 55, wherein the connector lockingly engages the first part and second part when the second part is inserted within the first part.

57. The anchor assembly of claim 55, further comprising a diagnostic or therapeutic substance formed on a portion of the anchor assembly.

58. The anchor assembly of claim 57, wherein the substance is a bacteriostatic coating.
