Abstract

Described is a method and system for a remote deposit system. The method comprises receiving facsimile data corresponding to facsimile of a plurality of checks, constructing digitized images of the checks as a function of the facsimile data, gathering check data from each of the digitized images, and processing the check data according to a check processing procedure to settle transactions referenced by each of the checks.

Claims

1. A method, comprising:

receiving facsimile data corresponding to a facsimile of at least one of a plurality of checks;

generating digitized images of the checks as a function of the facsimile data;

obtaining check data from each of the digitized images; and

processing the check data according to a check processing procedure to settle transactions referenced by each of the checks.

2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the digitized images include front and back images of the checks.

3. The method according to claim 2, wherein the facsimile data includes at least one of (i) check order indicators, (ii) front and back indicators for the checks and (iii) a depositor indicator indicative of a depositor referenced by each of the checks.

4. The method according to claim 3, wherein the generating step includes the following substeps:

identifying image data corresponding to the front and back images as a function of the front and back indicators; and

combining corresponding front and back images of a same check to generate a full check image for each of the checks.

5. The method according to claim 1, wherein the obtaining step includes the following substeps:

executing an imaging processing technique on each of the checks to collect the check data.

6. The method according to claim 5, wherein the image processing technique is at least one of optical character recognition, magnetic ink character recognition, courtesy amount recognition and legal amount recognition.

7. The method according to claim 1, wherein the check data includes at least one of (i) a courtesy amount, (ii) a legal amount, (iii) a routing number, (iv) a payee account number, (v) a payor account number and (vi) a check number.

8. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

storing at least one of the digitized images and the check data in a database.

9. The method according to claim 1, further comprising:

transmitting a return facsimile to a sender of the facsimile after the check data has been processed.

The method according to claim 1, wherein the checks are at least one of personal checks, corporate checks, business checks, traveler'"'"'s checks, money orders, Federal Reserve checks, government checks, third party checks, convenience checks, cashier checks, official checks, non-U.S. checks, gift checks and payment coupons.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a transparent film having a plurality of non-overlapping pockets created therein, each of the pockets including at least one opening and being sized and shaped to receive a check therein; and

front and back indicators disposed on front and back faces of the film, respectively; and

unique pocket indicators disposed on the pockets.

12. The apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the film is one of approximately 8½

13. The apparatus according to claim 11, further comprising:

a depositor indicator disposed on the film, the depositor indicator indicative of an identity of a depositor of the check.

14. The apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the pocket indicators are sequential numbers.

The apparatus according to claim 11, wherein the checks are at least one of personal checks, corporate checks, business checks, traveler'"'"'s checks, money orders, Federal Reserve checks, government checks, third party checks, convenience checks, cashier checks, official checks, non-U.S. checks, gift checks and payment coupons.

17. The system according to claim 14, wherein the digitized images include corresponding front and back images of each of the checks.

18. The system according to claim 15, wherein the computing device generates a full check image for each of the checks using corresponding front and back images.

19. The system according to claim 14, wherein the check data includes at least one of (i) a courtesy amount, (ii) a legal amount, (iii) a routing number, (iv) a payee account number, (v) a payor account number and (vi) a check number.

20. The system according to claim 14, wherein the computing device executes an imaging processing technique on each of the digitized images to collect the check data.

16. A system, comprising:

a fax machine transmitting facsimile data corresponding to a facsimile of a plurality of checks; and

a computing device receiving the facsimile data and generating digitized images of the checks as a function of the facsimile data, the computing device obtaining check data from each of the digitized images and processing the check data according to a check processing procedure to settle transactions referenced by each of the checks.
