Abstract

A medical device programmer graphical user interface, wherein the graphical user interface provides a programmer user with a method of automatically adjusting parameters to be programmed to a medical device in direct response to a user modifying related parameters that are to be programmed to the medical device. The programming interface implements the method in response to the programmer user'"'"'s use of slide controllers on the programmer display screen to adjust parameters. In response to the on screen parameter changes implemented by the user via slide controller movement, the programmer automatically adjusts related parameters on the display screen by moving slide controllers for related parameters. This automatic adjustment by the programmer graphically illustrates to the user the automatic adjustments being made to the related parameters. The automatic adjustment also graphically illustrates the relationship between parameters being adjusted by the programmer user and the related parameters that are automatically adjusted by the programmer. In response to on screen parameter changes, the system graphically illustrates the parameter values that are changed and those that are programmed to the medical device and those that would cause unsafe condition in the medical device if programmed. The method also prevents the programming to the medical device the parameters that would cause an unsafe condition.

8. An external programming system for an implantable medical device comprising:

a communication circuit configured to link to the implantable medical device to transmit or monitor an implantable medical device timing parameter setting;

a display device configured to display at least one textual representation of an implantable medical device timing parameter setting, at least one textual representation of a specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit, at least one graphical slide control comprising a movable feature indicating the implantable medical device timing parameter setting, a graphical slide-control limit corresponding to the specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit, and a graphical representation of physiologic information including a portion of said graphical representation aligned with the slide control movable feature;

an input device configured to adjust the movable feature in response to a user input; and

a processor configured to monitor or store an implantable medical device timing parameter setting.

9. The system of claim 8 wherein the graphical representation of physiologic information comprises a representation of a cardiac timing cycle including at least one atrial event and at least one ventricular event.

10. The system of claim 9 wherein the implantable medical device timing parameter setting comprises a configurable cardiac timing parameter selected from at least one of:

Atrioventricular Delay (AVD), Left Ventricular Offset (LVO), Post-Ventricular Atrial Refractory Period (PVARP), Right Ventricular Refractory Period (RVRP), or Left Ventricular Refractory Period (LVRP).

11. The system of claim 10 wherein a graphical slide control feature is configured with a color corresponding to a displayed representation of a portion of a physiologic structure.

The system of claim 8 wherein the processor includes a comparator, the comparator configured to compare a first implantable medical device timing parameter setting against a second implantable medical device timing parameter setting, and wherein the processor is configured to declare a parameter interaction event when the first implantable medical device timing parameter setting is outside a range computed using the second implantable medical device timing parameter setting.

13. The system of claim 12 wherein the display device is configured to change a color of the textual representation of the implantable medical device timing parameter setting in response to a parameter interaction event.

14. The system of claim 12 wherein the processor is configured to deliver a warning to a user in response to a parameter interaction event.

15. The system of claim 12 wherein the processor is configured to inhibit the communication circuit, in response to a parameter interaction event, from transferring an implantable medical device timing parameter setting to the implantable medical device.

16. The system of claim 12 wherein the display device is configured to display an indicator strip including at least one implantable medical device timing parameter setting violation region, corresponding to a parameter interaction event, along a length of the graphical slide control.

17. A method for programming an implantable medical device using an external programming system, the method comprising:

displaying at least one textual representation of an implantable medical device timing parameter setting;

displaying at least one textual representation of a specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit;

displaying at least one graphical slide control controlling the implantable medical device timing parameter setting;

adjusting a graphical slide control movable feature in response to a user input;

indicating an implantable medical device timing parameter setting with the movable feature;

limiting a range of motion of a slide control movable feature corresponding to the specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit;

displaying a graphical representation of physiologic information;

aligning a portion of said graphical representation with a graphical slide control movable feature;

monitoring or storing an implantable medical device timing parameter setting; and

communicating an implantable medical device timing parameter setting to an implantable medical device.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein displaying a graphical representation of physiologic information includes displaying a representation of a cardiac timing cycle including at least one atrial and at least one ventricular event.

19. The method of claim 17 wherein displaying the medical device timing parameter setting includes selecting a configurable cardiac timing parameter from at least one of:

Atrioventricular Delay (AVD), Left Ventricular Offset (LVO), Post-Ventricular Atrial Refractory Period (PVARP), Right Ventricular Refractory Period (RVRP), or Left Ventricular Refractory Period (LVRP).

20. The method of claim 17 wherein displaying a graphical slide control includes coloring a graphical slide control feature corresponding to a displayed representation of a portion of a physiologic structure.

21. The method of claim 17 comprising:

comparing a first implantable medical device timing parameter setting against a second implantable medical device timing parameter setting by computing a range based on the second medical device timing parameter setting; and

declaring a parameter interaction event when the first implantable medical device timing parameter setting is outside the range computed based on the second implantable medical device timing parameter setting.

22. The method of claim 21 wherein displaying the textual representation of the medical device timing parameter setting includes changing a color of the textual representation of the implantable medical device timing parameter setting in response to a parameter interaction event.

23. The method of claim 21, comprising warning a user in response to a parameter interaction event.

24. The method of claim 21, comprising inhibiting transfer of an implantable medical device timing parameter setting to the implantable medical device in response to a parameter interaction event.

25. The method of claim 21, comprising:

displaying an indicator strip, including at least one implantable medical device timing parameter setting violation region, along a length of the of the graphical slide control; and

declaring a timing parameter interaction event when the graphical slide control movable feature is aligned with the implantable medical device parameter setting violation region.

26. A machine-readable medium including instructions that, when performed by the machine, cause the machine to:

display at least one textual representation of an implantable medical device timing parameter setting;

display at least one textual representation of a specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit;

display at least one graphical slide control controlling the implantable medical device timing parameter setting;

adjust a graphical slide control movable feature in response to a user input;

indicate an implantable medical device timing parameter setting with the movable feature;

limit a range of motion of a slide control movable feature corresponding to the specified implantable medical device timing parameter limit;

display a graphical representation of physiologic information;

align a portion in said graphical representation with a graphical slide control movable feature;

monitor or store an implantable medical device timing parameter setting; and

communicate an implantable medical device timing parameter setting to an implantable medical device.
