Abstract

A location reporting paging communication system comprising space satellites, ground stations and a remote receiving unit adapted to resolve a global position from signals transmitted from a communication transmitter. The subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit updates the paging network with global positioning information. A caller paging a subscriber in possession of the remote receiving unit may request the global location of the remote receiving unit. The paging network could divulge or block such information from a caller depending on the requirements of the subscriber.

Claims

1. A communication system comprising:

(a) a mobile remote unit that is able to communicate with a positioning transmitter to establish its location information within the system;

(b) a pool of communication resources that are authorized in advance to obtain said location information of the mobile remote unit from the system.

(c) a privacy component for selectively granting or denying access to mobile remote unit location information to said pool of authorized communication resources when the system is able to position said mobile remote unit.

2. The system of claim 1 said privacy component operable within the mobile remote unit.

3. The system of claim 1, said privacy component able to communicate with a memory component to determine whether or not one of said authorized communication resources should be granted or deny access to the location information of said mobile remote unit at the time of request.

4. The system of claim 3, said memory component able to retain information identifying one of said authorized communication resources and further information indicating whether the location of the mobile remote unit should be allowed or denied to said authorized communication resource.
