Abstract

A system and method of security monitoring is disclosed. In a particular embodiment, a method includes determining a channel of a television system associated with video content from a security camera. In a particular embodiment, a method includes sending a first alert to a display device and sending a second alert to a remote control device.

Claims

1. A security method, comprising:

receiving a signal at a multimedia device, wherein the signal indicates a security event;

sending a first alert to a display device coupled to the multimedia device, wherein the first alert indicates the security event; and

sending a second alert to a remote control device that is operable to control the multimedia device, wherein the second alert indicates the security event.

2. The method of claim 1, wherein the signal is received at a security system network interface of the multimedia device.

3. The method of claim 1, wherein the multimedia device is a set-top box, wherein the signal is received via an access network of an internet protocol television (IPTV) system.

4. The method of claim 3, wherein the signal is received via a multi-dwelling unit network terminal, wherein the signal indicates a request to access an entrance at a security system that communicates with the network terminal via an audio video transport system, wherein the first alert further overlays video content at the display device, and wherein the video content is received from the IPTV system.

5. The method of claim 1, further comprising:

receiving a request for security content corresponding to the security event from the remote control device; and

sending a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) signal associated with the security event to the remote control device via a wireless internet protocol (IP) network interface.

6. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending a video signal to the remote control device, and wherein video content carried by the video signal is displayed on a display portion of the remote control device.

7. The method of claim 1, further comprising sending a user interface to the display device, wherein the user interface includes a plurality of selectable commands related to the security event.

8. The method of claim 7, wherein the plurality of selectable commands comprises a command to send a security map indicating a location of the security event to the display device.

9. The method of claim 1, wherein the signal includes a video stream and sensor data.

10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:

determining an alert level of the security event;

inserting tagging data indicating the alert level into the video stream; and

sending the video stream including the tagging data to a remote storage device.

11. The method of claim 1, wherein the security event comprises an activated security sensor.

12. The method of claim 11, wherein the activated security sensor indicates an open portal.

13. A method of providing security video data, comprising:

determining a first channel of an internet protocol television (IPTV) system associated with first security video content from a first security camera;

receiving a request from a set-top box via an access network of the IPTV system to access security content, wherein the security content includes the first security video content; and

sending first data identifying the first channel to the set-top box.

14. The method of claim 13, further comprising determining an authority of the set-top box to access the security content.

15. The method of claim 13, further comprising:

determining a second channel of the IPTV system associated with second security video content from a second security camera;

sending second data identifying the second channel to the set-top box; and

sending a user interface to the set-top box, wherein the first security video content and the second security video content are selectable by a user of the set-top box via the user interface.

16. The method of claim 15, wherein a user selection of the first security video content at the user interface causes the set-top box to send an internet group management protocol (IGMP) join request.

17. The method of claim 15, wherein a user selection of the first security video content at the user interface causes the set-top box to send a request for the first security video content to be sent to a unicast internet protocol address of the set-top box.

18. The method of claim 15, wherein the first security video content is indicated at the user interface by a thumbnail image.

19. The method of claim 15, wherein the user interface includes a text messaging interface to communicate with a second set-top box that is authorized to receive at least one of the first security video content and the second security video content.

20. The method of claim 19, wherein data communicated via the text messaging interface is stored at a memory device of the IPTV system.

21. The method of claim 15, wherein the user interface includes an event-based notification control to control a behavior of the set-top box based on a type of security event associated with the first security video content.

22. A multimedia device, comprising:

a processor and a memory device accessible to the processor;

wherein the memory device includes instructions executable by the processor to receive a signal indicating a security event;

wherein the memory device further includes instructions to send a first alert to a display device coupled to the multimedia device, the first alert indicating the security event; and

wherein the memory device further includes instructions to send a second alert to a remote control device that is operable to control the multimedia device, the second alert indicating the security event.

23. The device of claim 22, wherein the memory device further includes:

instructions to correlate a security camera with a sensor; and

instructions to send a video signal to the display device corresponding to a security camera that is correlated to an activated sensor.

24. The device of claim 22, wherein the memory device further includes instructions to determine an alert level of a security event, and wherein the memory device further includes instructions to determine video content to display at the display device based on an alert level.

25. The device of claim 24, wherein the memory device further includes instructions to determine a privacy category of the security event.

26. The device of claim 25, wherein the signal comprises video data, wherein the memory device further includes instructions to associate tagging data to a portion of the video data corresponding to the security event, and wherein the tagging data includes at least one of the alert level and the privacy category of the security event.

27. The device of claim 26, wherein the memory device further includes instructions to selectively store the video data and the tagging data at a memory device based at least partially on a user video storage setting.

28. The device of claim 22, wherein the security data further includes audio data, and further comprising:

a wireless internet protocol (IP) network interface to wirelessly communicate with a wireless IP network; and

an IP remote control communication module to selectively send Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) data corresponding to audio data corresponding to a security event to a remote control via the wireless IP network interface when the security event includes receiving a request from a network terminal to access an entrance at a security system that communicates with the network terminal via an audio video transport system.
