Abstract

A method and system of transmitting a message from a transmitting client to a primary receiving client via a proxy server, which is also connected to a secondary receiving client. A message is sent from the transmitting client to the proxy server. The message includes a first header indicative of an address of the primary receiving client and a second header indicative of an address of the secondary receiving client and the primary header being indicative of only a single one of the addresses. The message is then transmitted from the proxy server to the primary receiving client and from the proxy server to the secondary receiving client.

Claims

1. Apparatus, said apparatus configured to:

send a message, received from an original sender, to each of a plurality of user equipment associated with different users;

determine on the basis of any received delivery messages from the user equipment which of the user equipment have received the message, a received delivery message being indicative of successful receipt of the message;

prepare a delivery report indicating which of said user equipment have received said message, and

send the delivery report to an address associated with the original sender.

2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said apparatus comprises a server.

3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, the apparatus further configured to:

re-send the message to any of said user equipment that do not send the delivery message within a predetermined time period after sending of the message.

4. Apparatus according to claim 1, the apparatus further configured to:

re-send the message up to a predetermined number of times, and in the event that no delivery message is received, determine that the message transmission was not successful,

wherein the delivery report indicates those user equipment that have not received the message.

5. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the apparatus is a session initiation protocol (SIP) proxy server and the message is an SIP message.

6. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said apparatus is configured to operate in accordance with a session initiation protocol message protocol.

7. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said delivery report comprises a session initiation protocol message.

8. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said delivery report comprises delivery status in a session initiation protocol message payload.

9. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said delivery report comprises a session initiation protocol message having an Event type defining that said report comprises a delivery report and a Content type defining delivery status.

10. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein said message comprises a paging context.

11. A method, said method comprising:

sending a message, received from an original sender, to each of a plurality of user equipment associated with different users;

determining on the basis of any received delivery messages from the user equipment which of the user equipment have received the message, a received delivery message being indicative of successful receipt of the message;

preparing a delivery report indicating which of said user equipment have received said message; and

sending the delivery report to an address associated with said original sender.

12. The method according to claim 11, further comprising:

re-sending the message to any of said user equipment that do not send the delivery message within a predetermined time period.

13. The method according to claim 12, further comprising:

re-sending the message up to a predetermined number of times; and

in the event that no delivery message is received, determining that the message transmission was not successful,

wherein the delivery report indicates those user equipment that have not received the message.

14. The method according to claim 12, wherein the message is a session initiation protocol message.

15. The method according to claim 12, wherein said method uses a session initiation protocol message protocol.

16. The method according to claim 12, wherein said delivery report comprises a session initiation protocol message.

17. The method according to claim 12, wherein said delivery report comprises delivery status in a session initiation protocol message payload.

18. The method according to claim 17, wherein said delivery report comprises a session initiation protocol message having an Event type defining that said report comprises a delivery report and a Content type defining delivery status.

19. The method as claimed in claim 12, wherein said message comprises a paging context.

20. Apparatus, said apparatus configured to:

send a message to a server;

receive a delivery report from the server indicating which of a plurality of user equipment associated with different users has received the message.

21. Apparatus as claimed in claim 20, wherein said apparatus comprises user equipment.

22. Apparatus according to claim 20, wherein the delivery report is indicative of the server having awaited a delivery message from each of the user equipment, and determined, on the basis of any of said received delivery messages, which of the user equipment received the message.

23. Apparatus according to claim 22, wherein the message is a SIP message.

24. Apparatus according to claim 22, wherein said delivery report comprises a session initiation protocol message having an Event type defining that said report comprises a delivery report and a Content type defining delivery status.

25. A computer readable medium having computer-executable components comprising:

a first computer executable component which when executed sends a message, received from an original sender, to each of a plurality of user equipment associated with different users;

a second computer executable component which when executed determines on the basis of any received delivery messages from the user equipment which of the user equipment have received the message, a received delivery message being indicative of successful receipt of the message;

a third computer executable component which when executed prepares a delivery report indicating which of said user equipment have received said message; and

a fourth computer executable component which when executed sends the delivery report to an address associated with said original sender.
